MkV R32 brake/steering noise

3000km? Matey, get in the car and put some serious mileage, the difference between a low mileage and 15k+ miles is astounding in all aspects. Try not to get frustrated as the noise will be there for a long time more unless you give your brakes some proper hammering on the track. Fast road driving barely gives the Mk5 brakes a hard time. The OEM brakes on the Mk5 are astonishingly good and even after 17k miles of moderate to hard driving, I have still got around 40% of life left on the front brakes. It's normal for large brake kits like the Mk5 to have a degree of flex on near to full steering lock. It happens on other aftermarket large brake kits as well but the noise they make sounds more like the sound you get when you grind a knife against a blade sharpener. Like I've said before, it's all due to the brake pads touching the disc ever so slightly.

I haven't been able to post anything for a while now. The noise has appeared again but his time only when i turn hard left, and not originally to the right.

I'm now on 15K miles. i'll get VW to look at it when i get it serviced. I'm not worrying about it at the minute

Hm now the sound comes when I'm not even pressing on the brakes. Sharp turn into a corner or even at low speeds in a carpark creates the noise. Dealer said to bring it in and they are aware of steering column faults in the Golf range, so it sounds like they will replace it but I'm not comfortable with someone opening up the R & replacing a internal part on a brand new car.

It's normal mate. That was what I was experiencing before. In the end of the day, it is up to you whether you wish to have the dealer do something about it. They shouldn't do any damage to the car by replacing the steering column but it's your call. Good luck.
