Vagabond
Short- shift? i like the sound of that. What sort of money?
rs32
not expensive - just above £100 plus fitting if I recall. They are made by Neuspeed or HPA - mine is the HPA version. There are many suppliers for this and they will post the part directly to you. Might take a while for shipping if not in stock though. Fitting takes some swearing, a long extension and around 20 minutes.

Oli
[ QUOTE ] Alright peeps, i pick the car up next wednesday spec is recaro leather, satnav, armrest with cd changer, phone prep, multi-function steering wheel. Looking forward to a wee blast round skye next week will post some pics when the weather improves, for the cynics [/ QUOTE ] Well done fastlad, you wont regret it. However the car suddenly seems to have jumped up £500 to £26495, and working out your spec on the R32 configurator online, as a five door, the total price is £29870, which means the dealer was telling your porky pies at £32k - suddenly this does not seem the amazing deal that we originally thought. If yours is a three door then the savings are even less, bearing in mind that this car could be 9 months old as well!!! However, your part ex price is great, and facts and figures mean nothing, when you get behind the wheel, and listen to the noise as you accelerate ENJOY
Vagabond
Cheers oli, it's the most expensive car i've bought, thus far and ever likely to be. I just had to have it as it sums up the essence of driving a perfomance/luxury vehicle for me, and i've had some nice cars in the last few years. i.e Clio 172 mini cooper mini cooper s 3 seat leon cupra R's (yes 3!) mitsubishi evo 8 (260) MKV GTI. Iknow i'm going to love the R32, everything about it feels right. I loved clarkson's review of it on the track so much i recorded it and watched it several times over until i knew i could'nt deny it........it was THE car for me! chriswastle
Hi Fastlad, Accept my apologies, post some pics as soon as you get it! my previous post was assuming the car was 32K new, not 29K. 3k off a 9 month old car sounds about right. I was looking at a grey 55 plate 5 door yesterday with DSG leather and Satnav this was up for £26995 (newbury) ENJOY

[/ QUOTE ] I will check for you Brakesnake - if ChrisHR32 spots this then he may be able to confirm quicker than me as I took him the boxed part a few weeks ago. The fitting should be OK if you remove the airbox first. I've watched Andy at APS switch them in less than 5 minutes but he does this without worrying about the lack of space. One thing to be be really careful with, there is a splined pin that holds the locking bolt in place - lose this and you're fecked - you have been warned ! Vagabond
Maybe so, but i doubt it will be another R, because i've only seen 2 on the roads around here.
chriswastle
Hi Robin, I have been seriously looking for an R32 but the cost to change really is a hard pill to swallow. I really love the GTI and the performance difference is negligable. I have also not been enjoying the DSG with the short little trips kids to school etc. However over the Christmas break i have been driving further afield across the south downs and realised again why i had bought the car with this gearbox it really does make an average driver feel hugely confident at very high speeds!! I may now opt to have the GTI chipped, how are you getting on with yours? like i said 8k ( what it would cost to replace the GTI with a similar spec R32) is probably to much for me. RedRobin
Hi Chris, I looked at the same swop a while ago and it would have cost me a similar amount - Not enough differences to make it worthwhile. I'm getting on extremely well with my Revo Stage1 which gives approx 245 bhp and most remaps will limit the torque to 300 ft lb limit - Don't accept one that doesn't!! The acceleration even from 90 is superb. The DSG seems to feel even smoother but I couldn't say if it really is! There's absolutely no feeling of anything being stressed and it's still easy to drive very gently. However, I would advise anyone getting a remap to consider upgrading the brakes if you regularly drive with some enthusiasm when safe to do so. Or indeed, just for those times when you could get caught out by sudden changing road circumstances. OEM brakes are okay but to match a remapped performance, bigger brakes gives a better balance and also added confidence. My advice about brakes helps me but may not matter so much to everyone else. The trouble is that I also believe that a good modded suspension also helps! So where do you stop?! Best not to listen too much to me if you want to stay off the slippery slope. I've now got the performance car I want but the standard car is still absolutely great .
petsy
hmm, Red you must be slipping as I haven't seen Milltek mentioned anywhere in that posting.

chriswastle
thanks for that Robin, i know this is a bit off topic but does anyone know if the GTI30 has different suspension or brakes to the GTI ? As for the Revo it sounds great but AMD are very close to me and they could stick the milteks on at the same time... wheres me Credit card
