Sparky
I wouldn't like to guess really, but the CEO of Sony Europe was saying that the recent price cut will filter through to European units too, but wasn't able to confirm by how much. It will still be expensive though.

Chelsea Mick
For me the 360 wins hands down Already established in the market and has good support. What really clinches it for me is that you can actually talk to your fellow gamers. The online side is all what it's about for me. I have met many people from xbox live over the years and remain friends with them. The connectivity to your PC allowing you to stream and play music makes the 360 a proper media centre. I haven't read anywhere that the PS3 will be capable of these functions. We have had the PS1, PS2 and most other consoles but the MS ones have always stayed attached to the TV where the Sony's are used as doorstops. Sparky
The PS3 can do all of what you've described, for european units. The ones launched in Japan/USA haven't yet got this functionality, as they are finialising the PS Network, but it will soon be launched and the machine will gain extra use. The PS3 is a fully featured multimedia system, that plays games. The focus of the machine has changed with the PS3. If you connect a PS Location free device, then you can stream your MP3s/videos and other content to your PSP where ever you can get a wireless connection. To me, that will be extremely useful. Sony have said they'll allow other MP3 devices to offer this in the future. It's each to their own really. I had an Xbox when they came out, and I played it for no more than 2 hours before I lost interest, where as the games and PS2 has kept me keen. RacingRed
I like playing games against other people but I absolutely hate online play. My experiences have been with PC but they really put me off. At the moment I'm leaning toward a 360, purely for HALO3 if I'm honest, though it already has some games that I enjoy, PGR3 and GOW for instance. Beyond that though I'm struggling to see what will follow on from that. Microsoft seems to offer little more than the promise of HALO. And all PS3 seems to be offering is Metal Gear and Gran Turismo, both franchises that I became disillusioned with this generation. PS3 isn't region coded right? Does anyone know for sure? I could pick one up off the shelves in the US cheaper than they will ever launch it in Europe.
malagus
[ QUOTE ] MS broke even way before Christmas! The x360 was always an easy unit to make. They made a loss on only a small amount of first-shippment units. Sony too a hit on the PS2, at launch, but so far PS3 shippments have exceeded thier targets. Unit prices are falling too, but they'll continue to make a loss for a while. [/ QUOTE ] From what i heard, and I may be wrong it was pre-xmas sales that made the last of the development costs back for them.
CarMad
I've been having a great time on driving games online. Best fun ever. My gadget budget has been slashed for 07 to save for the wedding. So its a Wii for me this year will see how they other do going into 08 and see what happens then. malagus
I see. I'll be i uni accomodation with any luck next year, so no TV for me, so no PS3 buying, but I may get one depending on price for home if only for the merit of the blu-ray drive that it has, If blu-ray wins the war, it's a damn cheap way to get it, and more importantly to try it out. [/ QUOTE ] I think thats my biggest problem with the PS3. For instance in the recent News of the World, the article on the PS3 said more about Bluray, than it did about RFOM (the best game so far). I've said it loads of times, and i'll say it again, the PS3 was supposed to release at the same time as the 360, it came out a year later, is apparently "twice as powerful", yet the games on both consoles look pretty much identical. Every review i've read says the PS3 is the best Bluray Movie player available, yet the "most powerful console in history" doesn't seem any better for playing games than the 360. As a gamer im unhappy that Sony spent soo much time focusing on their media intentions, and not enough time focusing on producing a games console. [/ QUOTE ] The PS3 will be the same as the 360, encoding is down to the individual content provider, its not fixed by the 360. Im pretty sure Movies are region encoded, and some games will definitely be (for instance games cant be released in Germany showing red blood, so they'll need encoding for that)
danksy
Don't be fooled by profit per unit. A lot of it is management accounts information which we all know is meaningless to the outside world Reminds me of an old accountancy joke. Q. What is 2+2? A. Financial accountant "4" Auditor "4 but i need supporting documentation". Management accountant "What do you want it to be"
