Passat 02 tdi, water in left rear foot well

Hi

A friend of mine has a Passat 52 reg SE 130 TDI. The probelm started with the alarm going off intermittentaly. However, this weekend he noticed that the left rear footwell (behind the passenger seat) is full of water. Nothing in the fron or the other side of the car.

He checked with the dealer, but they said they will need the car at least for 2-3 days to investigate and it could be a water filter problem!!!

The coolant water or the wipe water is definitely not going down in level, so the problem is from somewhere else.

Any ideas please? what to look for or possible reasons for the problem?

Thanks very much

Morning, If you do a search on the passat forum. You will see that this is quite a common fault and is usually caused by the drain holes under the battery getting clogged. Then the water flows in through the pollen filter( in the top right hand side as you stand at the front of the car and look in) of the engine bay under the windscreen.

I believe there is a link in one of the posts that has pics and an explanation of how to fix it.

hello here is a link from this forum before.

i had similar problem recently and yes its the pollen filter housing i cleaned out the poo and leaves so the water could flow properly and it sorted it.

i will get a new seal when i get a chance but beware vw will sting you big time.get in there and clear out the gullys and channels then pour some water and see if it flows out without getting trapped and sitting there.

you might find that will do it like mine.

also depending on if the car has a full vw history and the mileage vw may even help pay for the cost of repair.

hi there it wont be the drain holes its the pollen filter housing seal thats faulty get it sorted quick or you will be facing a large bill the wiring and the ccu unit will be damaged

I disagree that it won't be, Steve. Blocked drain holes is exactly what was the problem in Mrs Mook's Passat 169144-ok.gif

had this problem , it is the blocked drain holes, it fills up the battery compartment, gets through pollen filter seal.under carpets and you notice it at back of car this is where the insulation is thinnest, hope your ccu is ok ,get the carpets up quick ,and get it dried out before corrosion and possible wire damage to ccu,it is very expensive to replace this new, also you need a new pollen filter gasket,
