stooH
I'm due to collect my shiny new red GTI DSG on monday and have seen other threads mention issues with new cars, particularly things which appear to have been missed on the PDI. I was hoping that people would be able to point me in the direction of a few things I should look out for. In particular i've noticed: 1) Suspension chocks still in 2) Check that the brushed finish accelerator is fitted Would people be able to post up any other obvious things Much appreciated
MrAvant
Make sure that they fitted the engine...... you said obvious
Dave
When you collect your car you should be given a PDI list. It will be boxes with ticks in them. Basically, as the mechanics go through the list they tick them off as they are done. Sometimes things get missed, but you will notice from driving the car.. you can then check against the list to see why it's been missed. You have to remember that the faults or errors you read on forums like this are very rare. They just seem to happen a lot because people write about their problems, but you don't get the 1000's who have everything ok, because they don't post "my pdi was spot on"! i'm hope everything will be ok with your new Gti (cracking car, esp with DSG).. stooH
If everything is ok I shall start a trend of putting up a 'my PDI was great!' thread Been waiting to get this car since I read about them in a magazine over 3 years ago. Long wait...
stooH
that's not to say that I placed my order 3 years ago! that would have been a long wait... damn those allocations!
AdyGTI
Check the allignment of the doors. My passenger door was out of allignment at the top so it was sticking out 3/8 of an inch. The guy at the body shot said that there was no way that it should have passed PDI! That was the only issue I had with the car at the time, but I now have slight wind noise comming through the top of the drivers door which I can't be bothered with atm. Dave
When i collected my RS6, three of the four alloys had been scratched.. and quite badly.. The dealer ordered me 3 new ones, rather than have them repaired, which i thought was good. It was marked on the PDI.
stooH
Alloys! good shout, especially with the monza's looks like they'll kerb easily...
petsy
if you've ordered the center armrest then look for the vw bottle opener in the center drinks holder cubby.
davyk31
I did not think of doing it with my car but a good tip is to take it a short drive with the salesman before signing and handing over any cash. My car had both wind noise and a screw head rolling round the metal floor under the passenger seat. I am convinced they did not PDI as both faults were blindingly obvious. I noticed the screw noise immediately I drove off but wrongly assumed it was something rolling round the door pocket. Should have checked but my excitement did not let me. However they probably would not have done anything that day as when they did take it in for investigation they had to order a door seal and finding the screw on the floor pan took several hours. Shadowman
Hi Stoo - I'm sure the excitement is really brewing now with less than a week to go... there is nothing that can compare to the feeling you get taking delivery of a brand new motor! I had no problems with my PDI although, after reading some posts on TSN, I did double check with the dealer that they had correctly adjusted my Xenons to be road legal. Not sure if you've specced the Xenons but, if you have, it's probably worth making sure they have been set correctly. Apart from the obvious of a close inspection for scratches and scuffs my only other advice is HAVE FUN!
Simonl
Yeh man, enjoy it. You can always take it back next day and moan... but enjoy the moment. Just make sure there are no scratches on the bodywork or alloys... anything else can be sorted without quibble.
stooH
Unfortunately the dealer is 100+ miles away from where I live so I need to check that all is ok before i leave!! THe idea about going for a quick drive with the bloke is a good one
Snoopy
Get the copy of the PDI and go over it yourself. Simple as that really. Check for accident damage, check under the rear they have been known to slip on the transporter, to then be repaired and only noted down on the computer system. Also remember that the guy doing your PDI may have been told he only had a certain length of time to do a PDI so if he had hit a snag say getting the CANBUS system to recognise everything (not uncommon) he may have missed something else as he rushed the rest. Its FAR easier to get something fixed before handing the money over than fighting to get it fixed next day too. Worst thing you can do is except it will be fixed later imho. PS The doors thats a VW known problem (they even say they can never be right in production!) the door design making setting them up a huge pain and so you often see them from the factory set incorrect. Simonl
The reality is you'll turn up, be bowled over... and not really care. I just wanted to get behind the wheel... My dealer was over 140 miles away so i understand your concern,,, but when i picked mine up the heavens opened, so i couldn't really check for too much anyway. You will have the odd problem, no doubt... but half the reason you buy new is for peace of mind should things not be quite right.
JonnyGTi
Not long to go now !! Best to get yourself a list prepared of everything you want to check and do, as on the day your excitement will no doubt get the better of you and make you forget half of it . From my experience and from reading this forum, I would advise :- 1. On collection of car get there early and give yourself an hour to check the car out fully before accepting. If you're not happy with anything make sure you can get back home without the new GTi and let them sort the problem out if need be. In particular eye all the panels up and down, (and side to side)!, to check there are no dents, pimples or ripples or signs of damage anywhere. Check the fit of all doors, boot & bonnet. Also check for :- A. Full set of Manuals in leatherbound GTi folder B. Bottle opener if coming with armrest C. Top up Oil pack in the boot D. No scratches anywhere E. Radio/CD security code has been input and you have the code number etc F. Check VIN numbers match between the car and documentation G. Check all the documentation (PDI stamped etc) H. Smoking Pack ? with or without ? I. Suspension Chocks have been removed J. Spacesaver Spare Wheel and Toolkit all present K. Number Plates are correct reg. front and back and have been put on straight Hope this helps and hope all goes well on Monday Enjoy

davyk31
The top up oil is not a requirement, its a dealer thing, some dealers do it and other don't. Mine didn't!
peat
Mine didnt either. Check all your options are there I made sure I wrote a checklist out before I went. As I knew I would be very excited and would forget things. But with my list I walked round ticking things off and it all went swimmingly.
