Ska
What sort of rpm settings should be used for removing light swirls on very tough silver Audi paint for both rotary and orbital polisher? I was thinking of using Klasse All in One, any good? Thanks
NeilScarrott
I deswirled my Audi A4 with my Metabo rotary and I found Menzerna ceramiclear polishes to be effective. This link will show you my writeup and will illustrate how effective these polishes are... http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/showthread.php?t=13291 PO85RD3.0x for the main deswirling and PO106FF for light swirling and finishing to remove any holograms. Does your rotary have electronic speed control? i.e. if you press on the head of the polisher, does it slow down or maintain a consistent speed? On the rotary I found I had to use a Meguiars Cutting pad with the PO85RD3.0x, layed down the polish at 700 rpm and then worked the polish until clear at 1500 rpm, then reduced for a few passes at 1200 rpm. For finishing I used PO106FF with a Meguiars Polishing pad and layed down the polish at 700 rpm and worked the polish at 900 rpm before reducing for a few passes at 700rpm. Klasse AIO will not remove swirls, it is a paint cleaner that will remove contaiminents but not swirling itself. On tough areas I would also recommend getting some Menzerna Powergloss, this is a coarse compound, but I found that the rear bumper for instance was so tough it would not respond to anything but the Powergloss. Like with all polishing, always start on the mildest polish you have and work up. I'd recommend cleanyourcar.co.uk for these polishes as I don't think any other store has all three polishes in stock. Ska
Thanks for that Neil BTW that A4 looks immaculately clean About the morenza stuff; I'm concerned it may be too aggressive with the extra ally oxide in there (if there is such a thing on Audi paints) for swirls of this magnitude: What do you think? Oh and my polisher doesn't slow down when pressing hard.
NeilScarrott
Those swirls look very light from the photo, to be honest the PO106FF should be able to shift them, it'll leave a great finish and does remove light marks from Audi paint too. slimtim
Thanks Neil Don't worry about the Menz stuff being too agressive, it doesn't have any more cutting power as such than any of the other polishes, it just seems to do it better, especially on VAG paint. As above, PO106FF should remove light swirls, if it doesn't step up the Intensive Polish PO85RD3.01 which should definately deal with those. Ska
Just before I place my order then: I want to use the Klasse products as well because it comes out in a deep wet look finish so should I use the Morenza first then the Klasse AIO followed by Klasse Deep gloss sealant? Naturally all preceeded by a quick claying.
J_C
Ska - FWIW I'm successfully removing light swirls from my S4 using Menzerna Intensive Polish on a Sonus cutting pad, and then finishing using the Final Polish II on a polishing pad. The results are a lot better than with the other products I've tried. I have also found DaveKG's guides very helpful in developing my PC technique. NeilScarrott
Not to take anything away from what John has said, but it has been noted that some of the S4's have softer paint than most Audi's. Standard Intensive polish didn't shift any swirls on my paint, I also found it dusted alot more (especially if used with water) and was harder to use than the ceramiclear Menzerna line which I can use more effectively and does not dust at all. Ska
OK guys you've managed to sell the morenza stuff to me but the question i have is, is the Klasse AIO and DGS redundant now?
Dave
I would be careful cutting the paint on a new car, personally i would be happier using a produce like HD Cleanse (zymol) to take off all the impurites and then use a good quality wax. I agree, if the paint is looking tired or tarnished then i would use a cutting compound. But take it easy.

NeilScarrott
Klasse AIO is still a great product to have in your collection. Great when used as a base for a good wax or sealant.
