Super Resin Polish

Yes. Polishing will remove the surface muck and possibly a very thin layer of paint to leave a fresh virgin surface. That surface will get dirty very quickly unless you protect it with a wax layer or similar.

Autoglym SRP is fairly abrasive so you might not want to be too hard with it.

Zymol wax is excellent, but take care to buff it well before it hardens.

Am I correct in saying that once Ive cleaned the car and applied super resin polish and worked that in hard I should then wax the car?

I was thinking I should do the above, I have autoglym super resin and Zymol wa ECLIPSe.gifx

Might be worth sealing it with some Autoglym extra gloss protection before applying the wax! 169144-ok.gif

Remember that the SRP is actually an all-in-one product - as well as being a very very lightly abrasive polish (the main defect correction it achieves is through the fillers it is packed with), it also lays down a thin layer of acryllic sealent. This will offer some protection to the finish, but durability of it is not great.

Which Zymol wax is it that you have? If it is the one from Halfords (liquid in a bottle as opposed to a paste), then this is actually a cleaner wax which will act to remove some or all of the SRP sealent layer and possibly some of the fillers as well... If you can, top the SRP off with a "pure wax", ie a product which is simply a wax for protection rather than a dual cleaner and wax. Something like Meguiars #16 works very well, or Collinite 476S for the best in durability from a wax.

Super Resin Polish actually contains an acrylic sealant aswell so it will give you about 1 month of protection on its own.

I normally use it in cunjuction with a good wax though as it provides an excellent clean base for the wax to bond to and the 2 layers will give great durability!

SRP isnt THAT abrassive and would probably not remove even 1um of clear coat lacquer (machine polishing will remove approx 5um which is 5/1000th of a mm). SRP is brilliant at cleaning the paint and its amazing the amount of dirt you can remove even after washing and claying the car.

The extra gloss protection works very well with the SRP (it was designed for it afterall) and given a couple of layer of EGP it will give a good 3+ months protection.

I also use collinite 476s over it and that has proven to give 6+ months of protection.

Not tried the zymol but no doubt (as zymols waxes tend to look slightly better) it will also look fab.. although which zymol are you using? If its one of the expensive estate glazes then its fine... if its the greeny stuff from halfords then not so fine... as that is actually a cleaner polish in itself and will remove the SRP layer.

bit confusing i know but hope that helps a little

Im due to pick the car up Saturday from the dealer - they have 'machine poliched' it so should I bother with DRP at all or just go straight for a pure wax???

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh oh! The dealership have machine polished it for you? This may not be a bad thing, but many dealership machine polish jobs that I have seen have been dreadful, with cars coming out covered in holograms... Personally, I would have the SRP on hand.

Yep - not at my request, they had already done it, so I should use SRP then get a decent solid wax to apply a few times?

What colour is the car?

This is just an example of what SRP can do but remember its only a temporary fix... as no real defect removel is taking place..

After SRP and Collinite 476s and several hours!

no they should have got rid of the swirls...need shooting if they havent.. but they MAY have left it with holograms (which is more common) as they are harder to see under artificial light.. they only really show in direct sun

there caused by not breaking down the polish for long enough. Fairly easy to fix though so dont worry too much.

example of a hologram (these were by hand where someone had used a hand polish that was too abrassive)

Check it over in bright light to check there are no defects (little point waxing over defects if you'd rather get them removed.. may aswell have them all sorted THEN wax)

If your happy the apply SRP to whole car with medium pressure. Then remove with MF cloth from where you started applying.

Then apply a wax (Id recommend collinite 476s for this time of year still). Do this panel by panel and remove after a few mins.
