Ari
Ouch!! [ QUOTE ] Yacht Dropped by Crane 1/31/07 "It happened about 9:30 in the morning," said Pete Wallace, deputy executive director of Maritime Services. "There were many people on the docks working and one person was near the crane, but was able to get out of the way before (it) fell over and dropped the yacht." According to Wallace, the crane operator had just unloaded the $3 million, 72-ft., 34-ton Sunseeker Yacht from the weather deck of a car carrier when the crane suddenly toppled over, dropping the yacht about 100 ft. to the dock below and sending the boom crashing on top of her. The crane operator was able to crawl free of the wreckage, suffering only minor injuries. According to Wallace, he was taken to a local hospital, but was released and seen back at the dock later the same day. The yacht's new owner was awaiting arrival of his new boat having had her shipped from Europe. Insurance investigators have been looking into the accident and assessing the overall damage to the yacht to see if any of her electronics or anything else is salvageable. "There were no unusual conditions at the port, and the equipment was proper for the job," Wallace said. "We did have the normal easterly winds we get this time of year, but they were mild. They (port officials) are investigating what might have caused this to happen but we just don't know yet." Tizzy
Ouch indeed - I hope the insurance cover was adequate!! Imagine being the owner and watching that happen in front of your eyes (assuming he was there!). My uncle used to have a Halberg Rassy (37 IIRC) which he kept at Salcombe. It was only a couple of seasons old whe he had it wintered out of the water on a stand in the marina, alongside several other yachts. High winds that Winter caused one boat at the other end of the row to fall, creating a domino effect, with Mike's boat being at the end of the row, it fell over onto a Landrover Discovery parked next to it - which ended up punching a large hole in the side of the bilge. The Disco was written off, the Rassy was IIRC repaired, although he got rid of it shortly afterwards......

Anyone know how long it will take to build him a new one?
Cupramax
Depends when we can get a build slot. I would guess they will be accomodating under the circumstances and the 72 Pred is on a fairly quick turnaround in production...
