AvantSE
Is it possible on the A4 (B6 2001-05 model) to deactivate the passenger airbag with VAG-COM rather than pay £290 to Audi to retrofit the airbag deactivation switch? Thanks, Chris
UweRoss
We do not give advice regarding how to disable airbags via diagnostics because: The only way to be certain that a particular airbag won't deploy is to physically disconnect it! There was a well publicized case in Germany where a woman had a bag disabled via diagnostics at the VW dealer. This was a front airbag, and she put a rear-facing child seat in the front passenger seat. At some later point, she was involved in a minor accident and the passenger bag deployed anyway, killing the infant. Therefore let me repeat: If you want an airbag to be truly disabled, take it to the dealer and have them physically disconnect it -- or install a switch that will do so when needed! -Uwe-

Sebastian
Short addition to what Uwe already said, Audi suggest not to disable the airbags and instead they recommend to retrofit the switch.
