Brisel
Further to my original thread I have finally had my R fixed. All is forgiven, Stanwell VW (Boston)! Having been fobbed off by the assistant who had said that the coil packs were "out of stock and on back order for up to 2 weeks" they have come up with the goods & fixed it up. Ricky, the service manager, made a few phone calls while the mechanics were repairing the burnt out (and it really was burnt ) coil pack. Apparently VW are replacing all faulty coil packs from that generation of engines under warranty - whether or not there is any warranty on the car itself. Apologies if that issue has already been posted BTW Result? One clean R32 with a full diagnostic check up & no charge. AS far as the state of the cats was concerned, he suggested that I "clean them out a bit" then they would do a freebie emissions test before my next MOT but there shouldn't be any damage. My faith in VW customer care & service is restored

Henry52
What do you mean by that generation of engine. All MkIV R32's or between certain month/years or chassis numbers? Cheers Henry
Brisel
Good question. My R32 was 1st registered in October 2003 (53 plate). I don't think that it was limited to R32s but I didn't ask exactly what other models or what build dates were covered.
