mikemod
Like Robin my dealer is happy enough with the remap but I will switch it back to stock for the next service due in about 1500 miles. Insurance wise it only cost me an extra £50. As far as the map goes I have only one thing to say

Muppetboy
How has it effected your insurance premium?
JonnyGTi
Thanks for the write up and good to hear it works so well with DSG....I'm interested in one of these myself and therefore have a few questions !! How does it actually do the remap ? Does it completely overwrite the standard chip or just change certain settings ? How exactly do you switch back to normal map ....and then back to Superchip map (i.e. if you were going in for a service) ? What sort of additional insurance premiums are people getting with remaps and who are they with ? Cheers
petsy
hmm, this bluefin idea seems almost like the PPC® Tuning System one except that you can get free updates, if available, for the latter. http://www.bsruk.co.uk/ppc.htm
mikemod
Superchips also offer free updates when available for the bluefin. You just connect the device to your computer run the software and it will check the server.

RRR250
Sounds great for the money but you lost me from 'This is a very simple procedure'. God knows what I'd end up with If I had to down load a re-map my self probably the power of a robin reliant! I don't evan know how to put a picture of my car on this forum. It's interesting how were all getting to the same end result though. We be good to see how they all compare in the flesh.
ysabelle
I had the bluefin system for the Focus ST170. The best thing is that you got a couple of weeks to decide if you thought it made a difference. If not, you just returned it for a full refund. If I recall , it also had a neat immobilise function which as its name implied, completely shuts your car down.
mikemod
Yes, you have seven days, from the first time you connect to the Superchips server, to decide whether you like it or not. I don't think I'll be sending it back A quick look on the first couple of days running and the MPG seems to be about the same for my daily trip to work, 25 miles each way. Using the extra power at the weekend there was a definte increase. But then you need more petrol to produce 25% more power. It doesn't really worry me as I only do about 12000 miles per year. I was set on a remap from Revo as I'm only about 30 mins drive from their nearest dealer, but this Bluefin seems soooooo much more convenient AND cheaper. Well, I'm going to wait until after 1st service at about 10k miles/12 months anyway so I've got a few months to ponder. Thanks for the review mike. RedRobin
People's reports seem to indicate that there's nothing in it performance-wise re Bluefin vs Revo. I'm not sure that Bluefin is cheaper by enough to matter. Unless I went to somewhere such as APS, I would much prefer the personal service and rolling road opportunities of a Revo. If I hadn't already got my Revo before Bluefin was launched, I'd be facing the same decision dilemma but I'm sure I'd be consulting Ed at APS. mikemod
Just returned my car to standard tonight as it is going in for a service. I can confirm via VAG-COM that the ECU flash counter gets incremented each time you do this so the dealer can easily read this info and see that the car has been remapped. My dealer is happy enough with the remap so no problem but just in case anyone thought you could hide it

mikemod
Just plug the bluefin into the car. Follow the instructions on the device and wait for twenty minutes. Restart the car and drive off a bit slower than before
RedRobin
....Wait 20 minutes? The Revo is very similar but I don't think you have to wait 20 minutes for it. The car will probably take 100 miles to 'relearn' your driving style.

I would have thought this would mean remaps would be detected all the time, contrary to claims of tuners?!

mikemod
Revo code is stored permanently in the ECU along side the standard map even when it is disabled. The Superchips code overwrites the standard map and then returns the ECU to its original state when removed.
RedRobin
It's Superchips overwriting which gives some people concerns.
