gizze
Nah, they all use the BMW X Drive system, which has the ability to send most of the torque to the rear wheels if needed, ie coming out of a fast corner all power can be sent to the rear, similar to Audis proper Quattro system. Ben
I noticed yesterday that there is a light that came on ours which had a "4x4" symbol on it when I was pulling out of a junction sharpish. As usual, not read any of the manuals so no idea what it means

AvantSE
Nah, they all use the BMW X Drive system, which has the ability to send most of the torque to the rear wheels if needed, ie coming out of a fast corner all power can be sent to the rear, similar to Audis proper Quattro system. Thought Audi's "proper" (Torsen) system was a permanent f/r split that didn't vary, and the Haldex system was the one that transferred f to r. tom_hargreaves
The X3 also has the ability to switch to RWD only when on the motorway to save fuel. The OBC does all this without any intervention needed by the driver. Unlike the X5 which is permanently 4WD.
