dj4uk
I've got an Audi A3 2.0 FSI (03 reg) and it seems to smoke more than I expected - the smoke is white and worse when the engine is cold - seems to disappear when up to temp. Only had this car since Jan and the dealer says it's normal. I had a head gasket go on a car in the past so I may be being paranoid - oil looks ok not going brown and lumpy. Any A3 owners confirm this is normal? Is there anway I can test it isn't a gasket problem? Cheers DJ
PetrolDave
Are you sure it's smoke and not water vapour?
dj4uk
No it could be water vapour - I've only had the car since the beginning of jan so it's been cold. But to be honest there seems to be a lot of it if I compare to other cars I've had.
PetrolDave
The exhaust gases of the FSI are colder than normal so there will be more water vapour on cold damp days - you should see the cloud behind my RS4 on a cold damp day!
harddrive
I think I remember reading somewhere that this can be caused by clogged injectors. This is normally cleared by adding an additive to the fuel that will clean them on the way through the engine. See here
