Poor Base from Bose

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

bit of a newbie so apologies if some of the terminology isn't quite right.

I've got a problem - V.little bass or depth to sound reproduction.

I have an S4 Avant with RNSE Nav+ & Bose prep. It's less than 1 year old, but when I compare the sound to the standard concert cd/radio in my loan car there is a complete lack of base. The sound quality has no depth and very little base whereas the standard speaker setup in my loan car completely outclasses it.

I can't understand how this 'upgraded' speaker configuration actually sounds worse than the standard radio.

Has anyone experienced anything similar ?

I took it in to the dealership 3 weeks ago and they agreed that it sounded a bit 'thin' and that there wasn't much of an output from the sub-woofer in the boot. They then asked me to book it in for a full check of wiring etc (which was yesterday) - surprise, surprise, they now say they can't find anything wrong with it. I think this just means there were no fault codes, so they are probably unwilling to foot the bill for more work themselves !

Any ideas ??

Cheers,

Jonny_m

Bit of an obvious question, but needs clarification before anyone can give you an answer - have you checked the base settings in the head unit?

Just press the 'Tone' button and it toggles through all the tone settings - I think it goes from -4 to +4 with 0 being default - just make sure someone hasnt set it to -4!

There will never be any fault codes on the Bose system, as there is no CAN-BUS or K-Line going to the AMP. With the base speaker being in the boot, it's never going to sound as good as the saloon model. If you what it to sound better then you are going to have to relocate the base speaker.

In general the bass performance from the Bose system in the Avant is always commented on as being weaker than on the saloon. The saloon has a larger sub-woofer mounted in a position that can use the boot as an enclosure, but to avoid destroying the loadspace of the Avant the sub-woofer is both smaller and mounted in a much smaller enclosure. Both these factors limit the bass response.

P.S. Since we're talking about the low frequency performance of an audio system it's "bass" not "base".
