40:60 front/rear bias

Ignore my previous post.

I've just been digging on the interweb and answered my own question... Found this on Wikipedia under Audi S4:

"The B7 platform S4 is the most recent version of the vehicle, having debuted in late 2005. Although Audi classifies it as a new car, the differences between it and the outgoing B6 S4 are primarily cosmetic.

Audi has, however, made a few notable changes, including adding new springs and dampers to the suspension and re-calibrating the quattro system to maintain a 40:60 front-to-rear torque split under normal conditions. The system is continuously adjustable though, and the torque split can change depending on driving conditions."

Yeaj - looking forward to it - collect it at 2.30 this afternoon and am trading in a 2005 Boxster S (987).

Spec is really good:

See attached (above). Sprint blue, black leather recaros, manual, nav plus, tv, sunroof, mem seats, diming mirrors, cd, cruise, armrest with phone, tinted windows.

Oh... and a tow bar - gotta get that off!

Time is now dragging. fekr.gif

Towbar is interesting - IIRC there is/was no tow-bar option for the S4 as Audi did not recommend towing due to increased load/heat from the engine / oil-cooling caused by towing. You might want to check this if you're buying from an Audi dealer.

As for the 60:40 split I thought that was only RS4's at the moment?

Could be because of the extra weight up front on S4 vs RS4..?

Anyway - will let you know my thoughts in a few hours when I collect - will be able to tell coming from a Porker.

I came from a Boxster S (986) to the S4, obviously they're totally different types of cars, so there are some obvious differences, notably handling, where the S4 feels very nose heavy and rather ponderous compared to the Porsche. There was surprisngly very little discernable difference in performance / acceleration. The noise is completely different, but both sounded great. The S4 uses a lot more fuel (and oil come to that). Finally the S4's wet grip, is in another league to that of the Porsche.

I take what Wikipedia states with a large pinch of salt. It once proclaimed that my team, Forest, had signed two players and had allocated them squad numbers. Alas these players never signed.

There's been a LOT of debate about 40:60 or 50:50 on audiworld too.

Seems that Audi themselves put out quite a lot of incorrect press releases when the B7 S4 was introduced - which is why a lot of press articles and websites say the B7 S4 is 40:60.

Audi have now clarified that ONLY the RS4 is 40:60, both the B6 S4 and B7 S4 are 50:50 (As are all the A4 quattros).

Spot on - Wikipedia is wrong - now there's a surprise . I sent them an e-mail a while back but they haven't done anything about it.... smashfreakB.gif

So... is the A5 quattro definitely 40:60 then, or have Audi lied about that too?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes it is. So that would then make:

RS4, A5, S6, S8, QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ7, R8

as the only 40:60 cars.

This sort of mis-information comes from the idiot journalists who even said that the new S3 is 40:60 when everyone knows it is a front wheel drive car normally. Oh, no its the Torsen vs Haldex debate again............

Collected the S4 yesterday and went for a blast last night. Have to say everything Tizzy said about coming from a Boxster S to an S4 is spot on (and expected I might add). Very different cars to drive - awesome brute force power & traction though! The Goodyear F1s are great. Will post some pics asap.
