S4teve
How many times can a folding mirror go wrong? more to the point how many things can go wrong with it? I bought the car in October last year, Folding mirrors being one of the many optional extras fitted. When I collected the car the drivers mirror did not fold in. The salesman apologised and promised to fix it. October 06 - Car goes into dealer for two days to repair - fix 1 November 06 - Drivers door folds intermittently and then fails, goes into dealer for another 2 days - new motor fitted. Fix 2 Feb 07 - Drivers door mirror no longer folds, car goes into dealers for another 2 days - don't know what they did but they fixed it. Fix 3 Yesterday guess what dosent work anymore. I phoned Audi in frustration and asked the service department for an explanation. They phoned back within 30 mins and explained something must be wrong as according to their records they had fitted 3 folding mirror motors. I asked did they not think something was very wrong after fitting motor number 2. Mmmmm came the reply - very sorry can we have your car in for a couple of days to investigate further. So it's going in again this week. I've done a little research on this myself and it appears there are three components - a switch, a relay and the motor. Given that three motors have failed I tend to suspect that possibly either a fauly relay killing the motor or a wiring fault possibly induced during the first visit. The strange thing is that each time the motor fails it is always after folding the mirrors in and putting the car in the garage. In the morning the drivers mirror would have folded itself back out before failing???? Any thoughts, ideas or just sympathy would be much appreciated. It's a mirror, it's got a couple of motors inside. What could possibly go wrong, THREE times?!!! But I'll give you some sympathy if it makes you feel better. Mind you it might not last, I've got folding mirrors and they're 100% A ok Oh no what have I done............ BUB
SPLiiX
My thoughts are with you my friend. I am sure your dealer will manage to wing it this time. Hopefully you will reflect on this later and laugh. I can see a free service coming up!

GeneBopp
My car was in the shop for almost 2 months because the drivers mirror wistled at 77 MPH. Finally the dealer decided they will not drive my car above the speed limit of 70 to hear the noise and gave the car back. They cant hear the noise when I drive. Avus_Bub
I once had a woman complain that her wipers lifted off the screen at over 100mph................. BUB
SPLiiX
Many moons ago, my old man once told me the story about an old lady that said her car was going through an awful lot of petrol. The car was in the garage for weeks to try and figure out the problem. Then the mechanic asked if he could go out for a drive with her. When they got in the car she "pulled the choke out" and hung her handbag on it!! Say no more!
