fizzbitt
For the money.. its a funky little car but still a worthy contender for its price range. The Fiat seems to have good reviews as well though.
garcon magnifique
Robin - you already do drive a sensible car. Or at least it would be if it didn't have silly exhausts. And it wasn't pink.
garcon magnifique
btw, if we're talking really sensible I'd agree with the Panda 100hp. Also the Swift. And I have renewed respect for the Polo GTI.

rhyds
I'd go for a mid 90s hot hatch (Metro GTi, AX GT and so on) because they're cheap, fun to drive and are very easy to "tailor" with suspension, brake and engine mods.
peterb
On the subject of a 'sensible' car ... last week I spent some time test driving various cars, looking for a replacement for my son's old Corsa. Of those that I drove, the one which surprised me most was the Yaris - I really didn't expect to find it so good. That doesn't mean, of course, that I wouldn't prefer to be driving the A2. Wallachie
Is a BMW 335d M-Sport sensible? If so, that's what I would have.

[/ QUOTE ] Very under estimated car is the Yaris. Im a moderator over on the Toyota owners club and they are superb small cars. Very well built and has the Toyota reliability to boot so not much can compare in terms of low running costs.
sayerbloke
[ QUOTE ] My boss in Sweden has one. He suggests the power delivery is lumpy. Is this normal or should he get it into a dealer? [/ QUOTE ] They all do that, Sir At least, the two reviews I've seen seems to suggest they do.
DaddyDub
Im thinking 1.4 170 TSI Golf or for something smaller, 1.4 Lupo GTI?
steffiraf
I would probably go for the Toyoa 'Yazzer'(as it has been christened), ex mum in law has one and its great for fuel consumption and nippy too. Failing that, i quite liked my old 1.2 sxi corsa
Calm Chris
I'd have one of these
Glock
[ QUOTE ] Im thinking 1.4 170 TSI Golf or for something smaller, 1.4 Lupo GTI? [/ QUOTE ] Lupo GTI is a top choice, although they are all 1.6 Light, fast and economical and also quite exclusive. When I downgraded to a 'sensible' car I bought one. So far its been superb

garcon magnifique
Yup. Cracking little car. Which reminds me of a similar alternative - Brabus Smart coupe.
stooH
The standard brabus smart coupe or the 'special' one they showed on top gear a few years back?
Torino101
Yup - both the "sensible" or small engined cars i'd consider have both just been mentioned: The Lupo GTi The Brabus Smart Coupe

smurfette
I think I drive a sensible car, well it is for me anyway. I rarely have anyone else with me so 2 seats are enough. I don't tend to drive long distances so my 699cc engine is ample. I can park it in very small spaces which is ideal at my work. It doesn't cost a fortune to insure, is cheap on petrol and I can't complain at £40 a year road tax! There's also plenty of room for my shopping in the boot - and I can fit a lot in there!! shao_khan
Id go for Lupo GTI is above 1.4, or 90bhp A2 Tdi if 1.4 IF I could have a modded car then it would be Audi A2 with 1.4 TSi chipped with 200bhp - that should be fun
winrya
i'd have one of these 2, both with the 1.4 in these colours
D1MAC
I wouldn't say I'm am major fan of VAG products but I would have to go with the Lupo GTI - always thought they looked like a great hoot. Failing that, an A2 with some under bonnet tweaking would also hit the mark. for both.
theduisbergkid
Glad my Lupo idea met with general approval ! I'd love one myself, and I also loves a Smart coupe I rented a few years back in Germany, simple, light, fun and different. Nice car really, and it wasn't as bad as you might imagine on the Autobahn either. I still think the MX5 is the ultimate in simple RWD reliable fun. Knackers to those who comment in the image, its great fun to drive.
