The X pipe was designed by a nascar team, the principle is that the two pipes meet in the middle then seperate off again (think a scalextric cross over)

They designed my x pipe a little different to Sven's, on mine its very shallow, the idea being that the gasses stay on their own side of the system but as they pass by the middle of the X they create a vacuum in the other pipe which sucks the gasses out of the combustion chamber and the cycle repeats itself. In nascar which has very controlled engines it produced a big difference in horsepower, ive got a video somewhere ill dig it out.

Hi, Thats a nice bit of welding !!

What i would like to know is, has anybody compared it to 2 seperate tubes from front to back ?

I can understand the vacumn thats created by the exhaust gases rushing past the outlet of the opposite side, but, the gases at "some" point must "collide" there fore slowing it down momentarily...

i can only assume that the Nascar team looked into this when they came up with the idea..

Bye for now

Thats right, on Svens one which was done first this would happen, when I came to get mine done they decide themselves to change the design which is why my one is a lot shallower see the bottom of the first pic after the cats 169144-ok.gif

The two pipes join, but only just, like this one below but mine is even shallower than that

The gasses in the exhaust would come down in pulses anyway as the engine doesnt fire on both banks of the V at the same time.

Anyone had a dealings with Powerflow custom exhausts on their 8? Sent a few e-mail waiting for a quote.

I've been in touh with Longlife, same chap who did my S4, will do me a cat-back quad exit for £625 (£850 normally but getting a discount as previous customer!)

Will wait and see what powerflow have to say. I'm wanting the x pipe fitting too, but not sure if most places do them?

my dealings with powerflow through a firm called tyrespot told me i would have to remove my spare wheel well for them to fit a quad system so you can imagine were i told them to go!!! as i have said before longlife did a pi** poor job of the pipe work on the system i took off,the car went to their place in leeds and their best pipe man came up from cardiff to do the quad work on mine he was trying to get me to accept all different ways to fit the quad system all of them complete bo**ocks.they are only use to dealing with vauxhall chausers and saxos and cant handle difficult work if you looked at the exhaust that came off my car when AAS in Newcastle did my quads you would be shocked, the welds were poor and the bends were botched restricting the gas flow. slap.gif

To be fair I presume most places that deal wth custom exhaust wont have their own benders they will just buy in variou different bends and weld them all together. On saying that theres not really any excuse for bad welding, as you can see on Svens X pipe the EPS guys were very very good at what they do.

All I mean is that (in relation to Rob's comments about routing) Powerflow and the like maybe limited in the routing of the system because of the outlets of their silences, the size of their silencers, and the variety of bends that they have in stock.

A small selection of EPS stock (they had a number of rooms like this)

you are definately right Botang i think with most places they are mostly doing straight swap overs on most systems and dont have any intricate work to do so all their pipe bending machines are pretty basic,i know longlife didnt have a small enough back box to fit in the drivers side pipe which is rather tight which would have ment having the bax box right below the bumper line.most of AAS work is on touring cars and do work for quite a few teams so all their work is bespoke systems. slap.gif
