I did it :)

Finally after much soul searching and constant head over heart indecision I've gone and ordered my new mkV GTI. I've decided also to take the plunge and go for an import from holland of a full UK spec 5dr model in steel grey. Decided just on front centre armrest, multi function steering wheel and sunroof as options.

To all of you sitting on the fence as to whether or not to go for it, just remember you have all the time infront of you to be more shall we say 'economical/practical/sensible' wink.gif

Its taken me far too long to decide, but, I knew it was the right decision as when I put the phone down to cars4charity whom my business is going with I had the biggest grin grin.gif on my face. Now it just needs to arrive...

Cant blimmen wait jump.gif

Cheers All beerchug.gif

P.S. If anyone is interested in the details of how the process of importing a car works, than I'll do my best to explain how I understand it.

Now comes the difficult bit, lensman! The wait seems to go on forever and you'll become addicted to places like Tyresmoke in your mission to learn absolutely every detail you can about your beloved GTI.

You'll doubtless find things which you prefer about your A3, but the Mk5 GTI is one of those rare cars which the manufacturer got mostly right. Its good features are the important features.

Nearly 32,000 miles later and I'm still grinning and I still turn around to have a quick admiring glance as I walk away after parking 169144-ok.gif. It's like one of those moments when you walk past a pretty girl in the street grin.gif

I used to own an A3 2.0FSI Sport. To be honest they are very similar cars. I think I prefered the A3 dash layout and quality of materials - especially those pop out cup holders! It's difficult to really compare the driving experience as the gti has the turbo and therefore the associated performance. Handling, in terms of 'normal' driving is similar but when you start to press on, the GTI seems to be much more composed and secure. The A3 was a really pleasing car and I enjoyed the 17000 miles I covered in it. The gti on the other hand is much more exciting to drive and difficult to really fault.

I'm presently 'sat on the fence' over a new company car which I need to order at some point over the next 3 weeks...I think I may go for the 2.0T FSI S-Line Sportback A3 but I can't get the thought of the BMW 320i ES out of my head. Eitherway, I'll still have the GTI for fun at the weekend 169144-ok.gif

And some they really made a mess of.

Speaker locations and audio in general.

Door hinge more complicated than need be leading to miss alighment of doors.

Door rubbers that don't like to stay put.

Doors that can freeze standing water in the bottom corner and so when you open it it peals the outer skin off in that corner.

Squeeks and rattles mainly rear seat and dash grill.

Steering racks that are still not right even after a revision.

the list goes on the more i think of it but i'll stop now. yelrotflmao.gif

4 weeks today and my ED30 Diamond Black DSG arrives via Euro Imports. The wait is killing me (especially as I've already sold my car and I'm going to work on my push bike).....

I hope it's worth it as I've never even driven a golf only sat in one.

Haven't got a clue what the DSG's going to be like?

[/ QUOTE ]

....There's plenty of info on this site if you do a few Searches. DSG has quite a learning curve - Simply because you have a number of options which you can 'mix 'n match' to suit you and the road conditions. Think of it as a Manual and not an Automatic.
