p9lad
Hi guys, i have recently bought an A3 2.0 TDI DSG and have noticed on steep to mild sloped hills my car rolls back by about a yard when i stop and start!!! this is really scary when it happens, i previously have driven auto mercs and auto VWs which have never had this problem! has this happened to anyone? thanks
PJLarge
I think they all do it unless you have Hill Hold - mine certainly does the same. I usually hold it on the handbrake for a second whilst I shift my foot between the brake and accelerator, but it is possible to swap foot positions before the car gets time to roll back. You'll get used to it with some practice!
livall
This is normal as PJ says above. Remember that DSG is not like a "auto", it is a clutchless manual, therefore it takes a little time for the clutch to engage when starting. Also PJ says the best way to stop the car from rolling back is to do the same thing you would do in a manual - use the handbrake.
GrahamSmith
[ QUOTE ] I think they all do it unless you have Hill Hold - [/ QUOTE ] I would disagree (unles I am just lucky). I have absolutely no "Roll back" and the car would be in the dealers if I had....
Dave
Absolutely.. my DSG V6 TT did exactly the same, and the only way around it was to use the hand brake.

I am sure you will experience a little roll back unless you have hill hold.

[/ QUOTE ] Granted, a "Very Steep Slope" will produce a "Little" roll back, but the original poster was talking about a yard roll back on a "Mild" slope. That would not be acceptable to me even without hill hold.
ian_m
used to happen to me in my A3 DSG, as mentioned, this isnt an auto box and cant be compared to a "normal" auto IMO
GrahamSmith
I stand corrected....Apologies.
DukeDesmo
No roll back if you use 'launch control'

p9lad
hey guys thanks for all the feedback, i went to my local audi in the weekend, spoke to a salesman as service was closed explained to me that DSG is not an Auto but both manual and auto... he said its normal to experience the roll back. but i will book the car in anyways as a yard of roll back is not right i don't think
shark_90
It will roll back as far as you let it. You are driving a manual car with an automatic gear change and computer controlled clutch - not an automatic car. You will roll back until the clutch engages. Just use the handbrake, there is nothing wrong with your car

RobK
I think a yard is a bit much though. Mine goes about a foot at the most.
edo
Depends how steep the hill is. You would use a handbrake in a manual... use one in a DSG..
ian_m
To elaborate on my post - Ben couldnt have put it better!!! Nowt wrong with it IMO
cdco2
3.2 DSG... always use the handbrake... thats roughly what hill hold would do... and remember you don't want the DSG clutch slipping on the hill to stop you rolling back as that will be sodding expensive to fix... it isn't a torque converter you know! OR put your left foot on the foot brake !! Its doing nothing else !!
JonnyTDI
Even with Hill Hold, if you have the brake on light then it will still roll back. Hill Hold needs a good firm press to "activate". Normal in my opinion.
