hi guys,

I want something thats the size of a separates box, like a cd player, etc, and that reads and plays MP3s from an SD card slot or similar.

It must also have a display on it so can see the tracks etc. (Dont turn tv/projector) on all the time.

Struggling to find something. Theres stacks of media players, but dont want any faffle of hooking them up to computers and iffy wireless technology (thick walls in house etc)

Theres a couple of harddisk based ones, like the sony/yamaha etc, but not many sd ones by the look of it.

another thing i was wondering was getting a pvr that can also play back mp3s from its hard disk. but how do you get the files on there?

any thoughts?

Dont buy a Humax PVR on the back of it's MP3 playback facility. It makes a great PVR but the MP3 side of things is a waste of space (literally, as it reserves some disk space). Crap interface, limited storage, limited audio ability and ferkin slow to copy across to, using a USB cable.

Best thing to get is the Sonos system or the Roku Soundbridge if you want to plug into an existing sound system.

Cheers. The sonos and roku are network based though arent they? Be nice to have something that stored the music on it rather than dragged it from another computer. (Dont want music servers etc running on work computers) 169144-ok.gif

Good point! Maybe a Media Centre PC? All the functionality you could ever want and a really good interface for use on the projector. One of main PC manufacturers makes one with a built in LCD screen. Can't remember who though!!

Cambridge (through Richer Sounds) also make a half way decent hifi seperate that has a built-in hard drive and the obligatory network funtionality. Not sure how good it is in reality but there amps and cd players are great for the money.
