mikebridges
Hi all, I have anither rookie question for you all. My 1998 A3 has a single din Concert 1 head unit with a disc changer in the boot. I have the sub in there too and it all sounds great. Only thing is it keeps jumping quite a bit, and coming up with no-cd on the head unit, at which point I have to switch to the radio and then back again to make it work. Any how, I was wondering how easy is it to upgrade to the double din Symphony 1 or 2 head unit. The climate control panel is situated right at the bottom of the dash (please see the photo). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise will the Concert 2 head unit fit. Would I have to adapt the wiring at all to fit any of these newer head units? steve1975l
Big job to convert to double DIN. Do you have the standard Bose sub or running some aftermarket subs? When I had a CD player it never jumped and is less likely to jump now I have fitted the Andymac sub.
mikebridges
I have the standard bose sub, in the compartment behind the rear passenger side wheel arch. Looks similar to the one in your pic, except withour the PS2. Whats the andymac sub then? Can just the CD multichanger in the boot be replaced? steve1975l
I would change the CD changer as it shouldn't jump. My changer was stuck to the standard sub and it never come up with no CD. Andymac sub is a custom sub upgrade from a guy on another forum.
mikebridges
Cool thanks for that, I did a little digging and looks like upgrading the head unit to a newer one is a bit tricky. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a new changer. Might also look for a new head unit the same as my existing one, as it seem to be doing the volume thing, where it goes down when you turn it up. Will have to look into the Andymac upgrade
steve1975l
I am sure there are some on Ebay. Aftermarket wise you need a couple of adaptors but losing the DIS is a no from me. If you want to hear the sub in action I am right by J9 M25 and there is an Audi meet Sunday 19th in Cobham.
mikebridges
Thanks for the info steve. Am always scared of going to meets though as my 1.8T will look a bit weedy compared to all those S3s etc
steve1975l
I use to have a 1.8T for 3.5 years with a Revo and it would keep up with a std S3....chicken. Lol.
