Dandle
[ QUOTE ] Sparky, For the New S3 there is deffinately a difference as the Haldex Brain is programmed differently I think it works more on throttle position agression rather than being road speed related so basically it is predictive rther than reactive and hence it gets in before ESP cuts in. As for 8L models Im not sure what happens... [/ QUOTE ] The haldex ECU on the S3 is the same as the A3 version. The system your talking about is haldex Pre-x as used by Volvo. The system can pre-empt driving style and close the clutch packs before they would normally. This is done by a small electric pump that can supply hydraulic pressure without relying the normal difference between input/output. As the A/S3 relies on a difference in torque between the input and output to power the pump that operates the clutch it cant pre-empt by throttle position, hence from a standing start you have a little chirp from the front wheels on hard standing launches before the hydraulic pressure has built up which you dont get with Pre-X versions. cdco2
Dandle thought the "new" S3 had had the Haldex software 'played with' to improve balance and reaction use of throttle position etc to pre-empt the spin in conjunction with the torque wind up rather than just the slip... anyway its all academic now.... change of tyres... Pirellis gone GSD3's fitted problem appears to have gone away by some miracle... dead chuffed with the new boots all round really !
Dandle
I think the software is the same but it acts slightly more aggresively with the S3 due to the greater power being delivered.
cdco2
being pedantic that means the Software is different however I guess the new S3 has a version of this fitted http://www.goapr.com.au/products/haldex doesnt sound like a bad investment for the 3.2 ... anyone know which has the fastest rising torque curve from a standing start at idle revs might be why the 3.2 DSG upsets the ESP/Haldex... minimal clutch slip top get rolling and a steep rise in lw rev torque with not waiting for the turbo to start blowing..... So it will be sending more power aft earlier with exactly the same software. An uprated Haldex controller will be as much a benefit to an S3 as it will a normal Quattro A3.
