Pincher
Did a search but couldn't see it anywhere else; linky So they have supposedly taken £7K from 120 people but 'have no cash', so creditors will get nothing Must be more to it than that, surely? Insurance Jon
There is a fair bit of bull in that article, and I genuinely feel sorry for Conrad. He has tried his hardest to get the event to run this year. His main problem was last year a lot of people were arrested as the Germans weren't happy with the event passing through. This resulted in him having to make a lot of refunds. Most of this years entrants (less than 50 cars) had only paid deposits and when the credit crunch started they just didn't pay the balance after their £1k deposit. I am dissapointed as I was looking forwarded to working on this one again, but I'm not as gutted as the few that had paid in full. I know there are a number of people out their baying for blood, but Conrad is a genuine guy and did try his best in difficulot circumstances. Bishop
You make a ridiculous sweeping statement in defending Conrad Wall without having stated anything about 'how hard he's tried' and what he 'actually' did to get this years event off the ground. The facts are this. He was running a promotional business model, which means cash up front. No cash - no expenditure. Conrad had booked NO channel crossing, NO hotels, NO car advertising, NO launch party, NOTHING! He had canvassed hard for entrants and had received many full paying customers - myself included. But with no firm bookings made on his part this rally was never leaving town. This is premeditated fraud and conspiracy to fraud whichever way you cut it. I had met, and was continuing to meet with, Conrad a number of times in the weeks running up to his disappearing act. In all these meetings Conrad was suggesting business to business joint ventures, sponsorship and events to me which all required cash investment on our part. Thank god I never moved any of them forward. The clue should have been in his name I suppose. He is a CON man. With over 50 entrants Conrad will have taken anywhere between £100k-£325k in entry fees (depending on how cheaply he was offering entry as his window of opportunity to con us all closed). So please if you're going to act like a well informed decent human being I suggest you ensure your information is from reputable sources. Conrad never had any intention of running the Europe 2008 rally and I strongly suspect our money is propping up his efforts to start his sham of a businessin Singapore as it seems it's full steam ahead for his Asian Rally! But oh of course, what a decent guy he is!!! Please! Edited September 16, 2008 by Bishop

Insurance Jon
Erm, my brother wasn't breaking the law he was just sat at the german czech border. Along with 5 other cars. Actually they didn't get arrested, they impounded the cars overnight so they couldn't continue. With regards to Bishop's comments if it was a premeditated con why would he have run the previous 5 events? I understand you have lost money, it must be upsetting, but Conrad loved putting cannonball on. He just went about it in a cack handed manner, when things went tits up for him, by not throwing the towel in early enough when the chips were stacked against him. As for reputable sources I've worked on every cannonball for the production company, and my younger bro is the photographer.

edo
so if nothing was booked, where has the money gone??
shark_90
I don't think there was quite as much money as has been made out in the article.. if 60 cars registered with a deposit (or perhaps even without one) and when it came around to coughing up they couldn't.. there wouldn't be the huge pot of money that is being suggested. Having said that it does seem strange that nothing was booked, however are the sources of that information credible?

Having said that it does seem strange that nothing was booked, however are the sources of that information credible? Looking at it from a purely business angle, the 'company' has gone bust and left no money behind. Seems most folks have assumed the company was in the black at the beginning of the year, and that the deposits taken have created a profit.... By what Jon is saying about the refunds etc last year, and I imagine the margins are tighter than some appreciate, it seems quite possible the company could well have started with a minus balance this year. hence the deposits taken have filled the void, more than created a wedge of cash that has dissapeared.... ? Just hypothesising for debate, I dont know the Cannonball or the owners or have any connection, just sharing a different plausible view point.... stooH
I think normally it disapears before it goes tits up, hence them going tits up...
