Riz
Pictures are out...... I must say it looks rather bland! VW Golf R Uncovered Ahead of Frankfurt Debut - Photos Riz
Brisel
Have to say that I'm with you on that one. Those alloys make it look like a Seat. Bet it's performance blows your MK IV away though, Riz!
Merlot
Claimed performance is actually quite a bit off the S3, whatever the article says. Strange.
Andy_Bangle
Those times sound pretty slow and are akin to what a standard GTI can manage, so i'm guessing VW is sandbagging for now considering the WRX runs 0-60 in 4.7 with the same HP number, less torque and AWD. cruiser647
Looks OK to me. The front damn and LED's will make it stand out from 'normo' models. Well judged I'd say. Just missing 1 or 2 cylinders.
Tarmac_Terrorist
It does look a little bland but then again I can't think of a non-bland Golf! If you want wings scoops & flaps & drama then the Focus RS will probably be on the list. I reckon it will look better in the metal though. If it sells for £28k though, that is a lot of money for the anticipated average performance.
Tipex
Everything about it seems a bit, well, average. Looks, performance, interior, nothing special as far as I can see? And the rear pipes still aren't right, they are better than the GTi's, but still not quite right, I think they sit too low under the valance. Shukran
Looks OK to me. The front damn and LED's will make it stand out from 'normo' models.quote] So it will look bland AND naff with LEDs.

Better picture of the pipes. I think twin valance exit pipes would have looked better, someone give Milltek a bell :D

Bet it's performance blows your MK IV away though, Riz! Yup but its not going to sound as good or feel special in my eyes.Everything is soooo well normal on that model. Just /R logo`s stuck on... bet the sillys and steering wheels etc will be used in other models too to cut costs etc. The original has unique bits.... anyway dont get me started... im a crazy MK4 .:R32 nut!!! I think its going to sell and will be pretty ok for what people want or need these days. Riz

Snoopy
I quite like it but for £28K + low allocation + little if any discount, the Audi S3 with its large discount and high spec makes the R look very expensive to me. Also hope they have sorted the handling feel and steering feel of the modern haldex seems to give resent 4wd VW/Audis
shao_khan
Bit disappointed - I'd have thought they could have trialed a detuned version of the 2.5 unit, but then I guess VW never does take risks. I see nothing to make you pick this over an S3 when as said above S3 can be negotiated over on price.
Cupramax
That does look nice front and side on, not too sure about the rear though and definitely not worth £28k+
JonC
I'd have one in a flash (if I was in the market for a hot hatch), but the alloys are naff. I'm fine with the price, I think it's worth it; a lot of car for the money, IMO. Could have been a wee bit more hardcore, though but the Golf has always been the understated hot hatch. Modified, this is going to be the beast Revo, Milltek, what's in store?
Paul
I like it. Including the alloys. Looks stunning in the blue. Certainly a possible candidate for the shopping list.
Tipex
the Golf has always been the understated hot hatch. I disagree, as most hot hatches are fairly understated anyway by the simple fact they are hatches turned sporty, the MK1 & 2 Golfs weren't understated, the Mk3 & 4 were simply rubbish (with the exception of the R32) and didn't deserve to be anything other than understated because they were simply not 'hot' in any way, the MK5 for me was a return to form and not particularly understated compared to the standard models. Mk6 to me seems like a bad move and another mk4 nothing special Golf, hence trying to placate fans with the R model, which seems like another miss to me styling wise at least. JonC
Forgive me if I have misinterpreted your statement, Tipex, but it implies the Golf is still understated which is my point. I was hoping it would look more like AE's "artist's impression"... I agree, Paul, the blue is a stunning colour
Mook
Jon, that looks like a Halfords kit Just leave it looking stock and spend your money making it go faster
Tipex
What I meant was, that the best Golf GTi's to me, aren't understated, and would be the MK1,2 & 5 whereas the ones that are understated are the rubbish GTi's that don't deserve the badge, i.e. the MK3 & 4. While I don't doubt the Mk6 R's ability, it doesn't look at all special, and a Golf GTi to me, should do.
Tarmac_Terrorist
I know what you're saying Tipex but all the GTI's have looked understated to me. From an exterior cosmetic point of view they have benefitted from little more than a different grill and winder Carlos Fandango's. Admittedly the MK3&4 were more so understated that the others. No bonnet vents / scoops, grills and big wings like some other hatches. I think that has been one of their USP's

I wont post anymore....... :DSeriously though....... when youve got the windows down, sunroof open and a sunny day...... there is nothing better listening to that V6 burble.... and if your going down hill off-throttle you can hear the exhaust flap... flapping... oooo lovely.... Mook
The noise is what I miss, but it's not quick enough for me, even in Stage 4 guise. Lighter car and less power is what's doing it for me now, until I take it up to over 300bhp/tonne
