Luke
Did a 15 mile road/mtb ride this evening, a lovely fast flowing ride out and found a new route on the way back. Took one of these half way round GU — Nutritional Information. They taste great and gave me a little boost, I think. Need to do my longer ride to see if it works when I'm more tired. No beer/wine for 6 days may have been an advantage too?
SamD
Did a 5K time trial this morning, new PB of 27:34 :D Tomorrow is a nice easy 7 miler first thing, that'll be 5 runs this week
Luke
What's the safest way to start running after not doing for many a few years. I like the idea of going out for a run, sometimes it takes my 20 mins to get all my gear on and check tyre pressures etc beore i can go out on my mtb. Also I don't like riding on the roads much in the evenings. Any advise greatly appreciated.
SamD
Couch to 5K is a great introductory programme - if you have an iPhone the GetRunning app is a great implementation of it, if not you can find the instructions all over the web

Tipex
I err, had a Dominoes Pizza on Friday night, and a KFC last night, so I'm doing well. To be fair, the mrs was in hospital having given birth, so what else was I meant to eat?

Mook
Took one of these half way round GU — Nutritional Information. They taste great and gave me a little boost, I think. Need to do my longer ride to see if it works when I'm more tired. What the feck are you doing taking one of those half way round a 2 hour ride? Take some water and get on with it. Gels are great for long distance runners/bikers etc, because your body has a finite amount of glycogen it can store, so you take them before your body runs out. All you did was to top up your body's reserves of easily accessible energy, so it will have used that rather than go for any of your body's reserves. So Gu have had your money and you've not seen any benefit. No beer/wine for 6 days may have been an advantage too? Yup Keep going

The fact that everyone should do at least 4 hour rides If you're out doing anything up to 2 or 2.5 hours, you shouldn't need to replenish anything other than your water - use one of the High5 zero carb supplements for minerals etc if you sweat a lot. Once you go over a couple of hours and get into three to six hour rides, you'll probably (but not always) need glycogen topups. Did I mention that I'm doing this this Saturday? No? Oh, well clickety-click and do some sponsoring Luke, there's a good man Charles Ridley is fundraising for British Heart Foundation
fizzbitt
John - Congrats to you and your family on the new arrival! As soulboy pointed out i posted my stuff on the wrong thread so here you have it as well. Right according to the wii, I'm just under 14 stone with a bmi of 26.37 (overweight). Date - 19/09/11 Weight - 14 stone (well just under) Bmi - 26.37 Target date 15/12/11 Weight - 13 stones Bmi - 24? According to the wii fit I need to loose 2 lb every 2 weeks to achieve my target. Luke
D day tomorrow, it's weighing time! Doing it on a weekly basis and the first week is up. garcon magnifique
My weigh in will be first thing Friday. Day out at Pontefract Races tomorrow, so frankly I'll be glad if I haven't put any on. There are some interesting (very early) side effects of an improved diet - no longer feeling bloated at night after choosing the healthier options in the evening in the hotel (could still do with eating earlier though), occasional pangs of hunger at strange times (but successfully ignored)... and ... I've just had the most offensive dump!
