Cheapest way to obtain spare key

I need a spare key for 2006 B class. How do I go about this? Go to Merc, or buy a blank key elsewhere first then take it there to be programmed??

Not really applicable here, but while my car was still under warranty, I bought a fob and blank blade from Ebay, got the blade cut for a couple of pounds at Timpsons, then took the car to Ford and said the key had stopped working, so they reprogrammed it to the car under warranty.

Bit naughty? Maybe, but they earn enough out of me anyway!

Cut a spare and leave it on the floor outside the car parked on the drive. Wait in the porch until a scrote comes and codes it for you from the OBD using their machine

I've always bought on ebay (the correct part number and frequency), cut it at Timpson for a few quid, programmed the unlcok stuff via the ebay instructions with the key.

Then had my local VAG bod who I use for servicing, program the key.

 

I think VAG-Com can program it too, so might tray that soon, as 1 key has stopped unlcoking the car.

As you know, Merc keys are electronic, with an emergency metal key so your options are limited.

I might be wrong but I think you need VAG Tacho to program keys.
