sms720
I've seen from a few off your signatures that a couple of you have had your diesels remapped/chipped etc to 180bhp. Give us some feedback, whats it like to drive now? Noticed much hit on fuel con? I bet the extra torque is unbelievable from low rpm?
s4dreamer
I've got 180bhp in my tractor, but unfortunately, it came as standard Had a poke around on some of the tuners websites today to see what can be gotten out of a Golf TDi, and it looks like you can get about the same bhp/torque as my car, but in the much lighter frame of the Golf. Thinking about it for the missus, but my S4 might come first
fatcat
I just had mine remapped by Revo, and quite frankly the difference is fecking great. 1st gear has and always will be a waste of time, it's there just to get the ol gal on the move, 2nd has improved, but the greatest gain has been from 3rd right the way into 6th. Keeing the revs at just above 2000rpm 4th into 5th and then into 6th is really pulling away. Not tried the top spot yet, but I reckon we are looking at 135-140mph, the top speed dont really bother me, but it's the way it gets there - bloody great. So far after about 300 miles I've not noticed any drop in mpg. From a chipped S3 perspctive, the figures may not be impressive, but I reckon a remapped 130 will give a stock S3 a darn good run for it's money, and remember it's a bloody DIESEL..... I'm having a bloody larf mate
sms720
Damn u fatcat I had just convinced myself that the gains would not be that great and that I should save the money. Now I have started drooling and stroking my Credit Card. Damn Damn Damn.
s4dreamer
Pete, you've almost as much torque as the old S4, but in a lighter body. So I suspect that you'd easily give a stock S3 a run for it's money. Not so much off the line, but in-gear acceleration is probably quite a lot faster (until the old gal runs out of revs). I'm toying with the idea of buying the missus a Golf TDi 4-motion if VW ever get around to importing the thing, and then having it chipped. Definitely not as smooth as the V6 4-motion she has now, but it'll pull a heck of a lot better.
A3Lee
Well i got mine superchipped fr a miesly 410 quid including the vat! got a small discount as my impeza was also chipped. The crack with the superchip now is its a remap not a add on chip. They have a file now which can be added through the serial port, 15mins and hey presto! My car was rolling roaded independantly and produced 185bhp, and the S3's of the day were all similar from 225 to 233. so it aint far out. ive done a good few thousand miles now, and the car seems to relearn the chips charicteristics, its getting better and better. Fuel consumption has gone up to avrage of 47mpg combined, and 540 miles a tank, which is 30 miles better than previous. when canning it it has never dropped below 43mpg. ive had it flat out in 6th till the overboost cut in and said no more today thank you till i turned it off and re started it to resaet it and it got to 135mph on the flat. to me the drivability is fantastic, 6th feels like 5th and 5th like 4th now, theres no need to go over 3k rpm just go for the next cog and torque is amazing. i went on a rally with mossy s3 and an impreza, and through the gears there wasnt alot innit, mine was plenty to keep the pace. I had an S3 for half a day over the bank holiday, and yes it was faster and alot of fun but you reallty had to rev it compared to the torquey diesel and double the mpg. so for day to day and blasting past things on a/b roads in 5th and 6th ill take the diesel. if my mileage was less and wanted a good thrash then the s3 would be my choice. But whatr i also noticed at cruising speeds the diesel was quieter at 90/100 mph than the S3. So to me im a diesel convert and any remap is money very well spent, just pay your money and take your choice as to which remap you go for. The guy that remapped mine does alot of audis at the dealership, and they are cool with it as long as they service it. also the guy that remapped mine has done 30k in his tdi 130 ith that map with no probs. ill tell you through the gears they need to be quick to leave a 185 bhp diesel behind! foxy
Hi, I have the PD130 Golf - an '02MY 5-door. It's 18 months old, and i have tried two mods for extra performance: 1> Tuning Box (DTE From Germany) Absolutely bonkers torque - could climb a vertical wall i reckon! Downsides - smokeeeee!, mpg Backed-off at indicated 137mph - racing a mk3 VR6 Golf on the flat. 2>DIY Power Box (fuel temp. sensor mod) Cheap and raw - great for dragging and short-term road use. Downsides - Smokey, bit of an mpg loss Upsides - low turb lag - grins per ££ !! Have heard negative stuff about some Revo maps - and Jabbasport are the alleged best route. They will do you a custom map, do a before and after dyno and all for about £400. ALL software remaps are detectable by the dealer - even the 5-hour trials, allegedly! fatcat
Hi there foxey and welcome.... I also have the 130PD, I have had the Revo treatment and the car has been transformed, ok above a certain speed the ol gal does smoke, but it's no problem at all. No problems and no complaints from the performance, grins all round and from ear to ear. As far as the 'warranty' issue is concerned, if I have a problem I just put my hand up... I don't have a real problem with that. But then again at my age, I leave all that rushing about and the overtaking malarky to the youngsters Best bet is try a few tuners and talk to people who have experienced the different tuners - get alog to a Essex, Windsor, northern, kent or midland meet, diesel friendly and a good bunch of people.
