I had a gentle play with one on Sunday - i think the S3 must have slightly more torque cos i was pulling much harder than him on the hill at about 100mph (on the test track...ahem!) so much that he pulled over and let me by - that was in 6th gear too. not sure how hard he was trying though, to be honest. I doubt that there would be anything between them on a traffic-light grand-prix, though.

I had a play with one in my TTR (APR'd). I had the roof down, and was the engine was pulling at about 3k revs, his car sounded like a fecking hair dryer. He pulled past me but he was driving on power and taking advantage of his lower gearing (he must have been in 3rd to rev the engine like that). When I realised he was "playing" I gave chase, and there wasn't much in it, until I decided to give the Porker brakes a work out for my junction at late notice!

To be honest I couldn't put up with a car that had to be revved like FCUK to get the best out of it! I prefer the low down torque of a turbo.

It would be interesting to see both back to back around a track. I suspect the CTR would out accelerate a sorted S3, and may even have the edge out of corners since the quattro whilst offering significantly more grip on exit from the corners, will lose out due to the weight!

I guess you'll let us know :-) grin.gif

i thought a normal S3 would easily keep up with one and a chipped S3 would destroy it.

I have to agree though. having to rev a car to 8000rpm any time you want any power has to get tedious after a while. it would do my nut on the motorway.

i drove an s2000 and boy did it make a racket.

Thank for the replies

My mate that is getting the type R

put the same question on the CTR owners club web site and all the type R owners were saying no trouble but we will see in two weeks when he picks it up.

just one more question what is the best way to setup the s3 with springs and how low do i drop it for the best handling

Oooh only just saw this thread... hazards of snoozing thru the beemer forum these days... yelrotflmao.gif

I had the chance of playing with a CTR while I had the A3 TqS about a month back... it was wet and I dunno if it was because he couldn't get the power down in the rain but there was nothing in it between our two cars.

I'd pull away a little early in the gear, then he'd gain and pull away a little towards the top of the rev range (well, we're both 6 speeds so gear change points were much the same). We pretty much gave up as after 10 miles the two of us were still neck and neck.. oh and I had a passenger and he didn't.

I did also chase one in the dry and he was admittedly slightly quicker but hey, I only had 180hp to play with... with an S3, it'd whip it's ass so long as you pick a wet day to play! ha.gifha.gifbeerchug.gif

Had a wee run against a type-r today, i had to keep on backing off. There no match for the S3. What good is a car if it is only good over a 1500rev range. I personaly think they are horrible cars, test drove one before getting S3. The interior is all plastic and when u look at the car it looks like a MPV. Had to laugh at the salesman, he said everyone asked how it could only be £16000, fuck_scott.gif I was wondering how it was £16000. Good engine in a very poor car pity. ha.gifha.gif

A Type R would beat a standard S3. They also handle better as well so unless it was wet you would struggle.

forget performance figures, in the real world the S3 is just too heavy and cumbersome. Don't get me wrong, I love S3's and have had 2, but Honda Type R's are serious cars, OK so they need to be revved to get the best out of them, but that is the whole point.

A chipped S3 WOULD leave one on the straights (my second S3 had 270bhp) but the Honda is lighter and with better brakes can afford to leave braking later and there fore better equiped for back roads.

Hi loddrik

Well this afternoons experance against the type-r wasnt anything like u are trying to suggest in your post. I was minding my own business when i spotted a type-r approching fast so i speeded up a bit but he was going prity fast so he comforably past me, as i have always wanted to see how the type-r compared to the S3 i had to speed up abit, knowing the road as well as i do i knew i wouldnt have to try and kill myself to catch him, its a scottish b road wink.gif as i thought he got stuck behind a car. At the first opportunity we nailed it and passed the car, i dropped into 3rd and off i went, i had to lift off before i got into 4th or i would have rammed him up the ass sportifs2.gif i was suprised how easly i kept with him. As for the handling i was able to hold behind him comfortably, when he realised his type-r wasnt up to it he admitted defeat and slowed down a touch. If anything the type-r look very uncomforable at speed on the corners and before u say he couldnt have been trying he was a spotty wee **** who prolly races every car on the road.

Maybe your driving skills are just not up to it m8 rocketwhore.gif
