baggy
Don't suppose any of you have done this, but on the off chance that anyone has replaced the DIS (I think that's the techincal name for the computer screen thingy anyway!) themselves, how difficult is it? Failing that, if anyone has had their instrument pannel out for any other reason could ya please let me know whether I should attempt it myself! I'm guessing it'll be a little trickier than on my old 106. My DIS is dying and my dealer wants 400 quid to replace it! I 'aint paying that, the part's only 95 quid. Mo-S3
Are u sure the parts are only £95?? if the dis fails then i was on the understanding that the whole pod has to be replaced?? Am i wrong? If you do need to remove te pod its very easy, you just have to watch out for a few things thats all. Let me know what ur gonna be planning and then if necessary i'll post the instructions then.
baggy
That's what the parts guy at my dealer said. Well I think his exact words were "around 95 quid" depending on exactly which part number I have. Never mentioned anything about having to replace the whole damn lot. Thanks for the offer of the instructions, I'll definately take you up on that if/when I attempt this. Cheers Mark
Chrisg
Noticed that her A4 DIS is just starting to fade on the edge of one side .......so I might be contemplating the same. Guess what? Just out of warranty !
baggy
That's EXACTLY what's happened to mine! And funnily enough, it was just out of warranty when it happened too
ChrisT
Baggy, If you can get the part number, give the guys at VAGparts.com a shout, the will more than likely be able to offer you a more than reasonable discount, tell them your from as.net, one of the buy's Martyn hangs round the forums sometimes. They done me some good deals in the past. Cheers, Chris.
baggy
Cheers Chris, I was thinking of giving them a go, but I wasn't sure whether they would be able to get anything so specific. Not used them yet, but I think I'll give it a go. Mark
Burti
thats happening with my a4 as well, it only starts to fade when the car is hot, in cold weather it is ok !!! i think audi wanted £600 to do mine, hopefully the waranty taht came with my car will cover it
baggy
Yeah, waranty definately covers this one. Audi were very kind to point out that it WOULD have been covered if I had any bloody waranty left!

Johnny_TSport
Thats exactly what has happend to mine too. After the cars been running for 3/4 an hour ish the lines start to dissapear!! £400 seems a nightmare! Look forward to hearing if someone does this for the £95ish. If you do - post some instructions Regards,
snez22
the part is about 300 from what i can remember. 400 is with 'reduced labour rates'. if we were paying it would be even more!! what a scam.
baggy
Sounds like we've all got the same problem. Does everyone else's seem to be worse in hot weather? So, it sounds like the parts guy at my dealer could have been wrong when he said the part was around 100 quid.
snez22
i saw the invoice to the warraty firm and the part was definately around 300. its ace! the dealer didn't question my claim at all. as soon as i said i had a warranty he fitted a new DIS. i need to open a car dealership, these guys must make a bomb from warranty firms. Burti
One of my mates is a serice manager for a dealership and they make a fortune out of warranty claims - he actively encourages people to claim things under warranty as most of it never gets checked by the manufacturer, only the major things like gearboxes aand engines only get returned to be checked out to see if the claim is valid !!! khufu
The DIS was a thing that I'd liked to have got on my car, I may now be glad it didn't come with one Still fancy trying to fit the external temp gauge bit, I have a blanking plate there.......
