  1. 1) No, you must connect the CAN bus via a TMC tuner - which also converts to Audi-spec CAN bus to the Bosch-spec CAN bus that the RNS-D requires. 2) DWA-GND is the alarm connection which senses if someone has ripped the radio out and sets off the alarm. 3) Yes you absolutely need a GALA signal, without that the location display on the RNS-D will be very slow to update, plus the GALA speed sensitive volume feature won't work. 4) The pinouts of the RNS-D are shown on quite a few Audi websites, a search should find them easily enough.
  2. You do realise that the previous post was nearly 5 YEARS ago - I doubt if Merlot still has the problem :D
  3. Find which fuse powers the aircon panel and remove that for a couple of minutes to give it a hard reset.
  4. I thought it would be as soon as you said you had LED brake bulbs. The LED bulbs don't conduct when the ABS tries to sense if the bulbs are present, and if the bulbs aren't present then the ABS "throws a wobbler". Somewhere that sells the LED bulbs should sell them, or an electronics shop like Maplin, what you need is a resistor that simulates the same load as the normal brake bulbs. They're 21W each side, and the easiest way is to fit a 20W resistor of 6.8 ohms in parallel with each bulb (they will get hot as they'll be dissipating 21W of heat).
  5. Worth eliminating the LED bulbs as a possible cause of the problem...
  6. I thought you might... have you fitted resistors in parallel with them? If not then, try temporarily swapping them back to "normal" bulbs and see if the fault codes will clear and you can do the G85 reset. I'm thinking that with LEDs bulbs and no resistors the ABS ECU is thinking that both bulbs are blown, and producing the fault codes.
  7. Sounds like it to me - until you get the brake fault codes to clear you won't be able to do the G85 reset procedure. Other thought - do you have "normal" brake lights or LED ones? If you have LED ones they could be the cause of the problem, try putting normal bulbs back and see what that does.
  8. Then clear the fault codes and do a re-scan - if the brake light switch is OK the fault codes will disappear. If the brake fault codes come back then you still have a problem there... BTW "brakes" are what stop cars, "breaks" is what happens to your car if your brakes don't work...
  9. Those are the clue - you have a faulty brake switch, so you need to fix that first.

  11. That's most likely the cause, the oil becomes more volatile over use as it breaks down under the heat and pressure in the bearings - hence the oil consumption is lower in the first 6 months after a service than in the second 6 months (i.e. before the next service) - and also why oil usage is higher when you opt for AVS.
  12. I beg to differ - I'm running a 7 year old B7 RS4, I've never had oil consumption over 1 litre per 1500 miles (and then only when it needed a service). Oil consumption is greatly affected by how you drive the car in the first few thousand miles, drive it like you stole it and you'll be picking up big oil bills for the rest of the cars life but drive it sensibly initially and oil consumption won't be an issue for you.
  13. Yes, that's a B7. The guy in Manchester is craigyb/s8craig and really knows his stuff. The BNS5.0 to RNS-E swap is one of the easiest ones to do as they're both double DIN and both have Quadlock connectors. The RNS-E is compatible with your existing iPod input and MFSW so they'll work fine with it.
  14. See my reply in the A4 Forum - you haven't given enough information to be able to offer any advice as the nav systems are different in the B5, B6, B7 and B8 A4s.
  15. Need to know what version of A4 you have - B5, B6, B7 or B8 - as they all had different versions of the base Audi Navigation (BNS4, BNS5, ...). Without knowing that it's impossible to advise what the upgrade would be.
  16. See my reply in your Audi Technical thread http://www.tyresmoke.net/forum/audi-technical/139594-central-locking.html BTW multiple posting just splits the replies you'll get - so not a great idea.
  17. The red light staying on usually means the central locking thinks that one of the doors, bonnet or boot isn't closed. Does any of those show as open show on the DIS?
  18. It's not quite that simple: - if you have Xenons then you don't need either headlight washers or headlight levelling to pass the MOT; BUT - if you have Xenons and headlight washers are fitted then they must work, AND - if you have Xenons and headlight levelling then it must work (but if the tester isn't sure if it works then he MUST give you the benefit of the doubt).
  19. The headlight washers run every time you wash the screen with the lights on - provided you wash the screen for long enough. If you just give the screen a quick burst then the headlight washers won't run, you need to give the screen around 5 seconds wash for the headlights washers to do their stuff.
  20. After boom will inevitably come bust. There seems to be a recurring theme in this thread that Audi are now making cars that are functional and practical, but no longer have the "I want one" appeal - and that doesn't suggest that their current strategy is a recipe for long term success. I doubt I will ever buy another Audi - I can get all the technology and quality of engineering in other VAG brands, and save shed loads of cash - so just why should I buy an Audi any more? (BTW I don't give a damn about image, so that's not an argument that will win me over).
  21. Stephan Reil clearly hasn't done his market research very well... in a recent poll on rs246.com the average time of ownership of a B7 RS4 is between 4 and 5 years (and most intend to keep them for a long time). One of the attractions of RS models has been their exclusivity, by selling RS models "en masse" as Audi will be doing will devalue this exclusivity and hence devalue the RS sub-brand as a whole. Audi are in great danger of shooting the cash cow that is RS, all in the name of increasing their sales in the short term. As a long term strategy it is most probably going to backfire on Audi.
  22. See O2 3G Mobile Broadband for the APN, username and password settings for O2.
  23. Not sure if that version of the SCSM supports the trip computer - not all of them do. If it won't accept the coding then that might be a clue...
  24. Looks like you'll need VCDS 12 beta, see Ross-Tech: VAG-COM: Current Beta
  25. Sounds like either the CAN bus isn't connected - or it's connected to the wrong CAN bus, it has to be connected to the Infotainment CAN bus.
