  1. I am averaging 45 mpg in my 170. ave just clocked up 10k miles. I live in central London so all journeys start with a 30 minute "traffic heavy" portion. Really loosened up after about 6-7k miles. Just done Chippenham and back c. 200 miles and saw 49.1 overall. Granted 170 miles of that is m-way and I drive at about 75 mph. Still, I don't think that is too bad. Coming out of a 140 bhp A3 I was initially shocked at the bad economy, but now it ain't too far away. And, the extra performance more than makes up for it.
  2. 45.6 on 170. I drive like my mum though.
  3. From a 170TDi owner.... a. What? b. I find manual modes give better mpg. you can change up sooner than the c. 2000 rpm in auto. c. nope. d. no more than in my old manual. Cheers Wall
  4. Happened to me after I had had the car for about 3 weeks. Actually did it after a restart having just done 30 or so miles, bizarre. Not done it in the next 4000 miles though. Sounded awful, even the Wife commented on it!
  5. I have an S-Line TDI 170 and I love it. However mine is DSG which makes (IMO) progress through the first couple of gear changes very eaasy. Living in London calls for huge amounts of changes due to all the traffic and having DSG has made life much easier. I had a 2wd 140 and thought it too was excellent. The 140 got about 6-7 mpg more than the 170. I currently average 45.4. Probably 70-30 split between M-way and town driving. Hope this helps.
  6. I have had mine for about 4000 miles and am very happy. I have the s-tronic gearbox and think this is a must. First gear is a bit of a nonsense and if in traffic you will be in and out of it all the time. I have averaged 45mpg with a mix of city amd m-way driving. S-line looks the nuts but the ride is very firm. If had my time again I would have the same engine but in the SE. Hope this helps. Wall
  7. ah, it still kicks down in "D" but not quite as aggressively? You see I think its great in diesels because 1st gear is a nonsense. On another note www.starperformance.co.uk/seat.htm have a remap for the 170 Leon taking it to 200? Oddly, they dont offer it for the A3 or Golf.
  8. Also, I must admit I was withour DSG on the 140. That really makes a big difference as you are out of 1st and 2nd in a flash. On an aside, when really flooring my car there is a "step" when you really bury the accelerator. Almost like you are pushing a button behind the pedal? It seems to put you into "S" mode. Anyone else found this?
  9. Its funny that 140 owners think there isn't much difference, but 170 owners swear they are poles apart. I have owned both (currently have a 170) and echo the points made by aliAUDI. The 170 does feel substantially quicker and I have only done 900 odd miles. Will go even quicker when properly loosened up.
  10. Doh. Sorry, I didn't. Next time I have the opportunity I'll do it. Hopefully it'll have done 3-4000 miles by then. Ta
  11. Overtaking is a breeze. Traffic is no longer a chore either! You will definately enjoy!
  12. Only about 700. I have probably done irreperable damage by redlining before properly run-in, but I couldn't wait!! I'm seriously impressed with the car in general.
  13. Hello, Did some testing of my A3 this week using proper timing equipment. 5 runs as follows: 1. 7.77 2. 7.68 3. 7.57 4. 7.62 5. 7.80 Pleasantly surprised by the results actually. Audi quote 8 secs but I always thought it would be quicker. Thats also the great thing about DSG, you get a very even spread of figures. Just thought I'd share the info. Wall
  14. It might be you know. My wife actually said it sounded good when I booted it! It has the same exhaust pipes as the TFSI.
  15. I drove the TFSI on test as they didn't have a 170. I actually think they are very similar. Perhaps the TFSI shades it 0-60 but the 170 would claw back the difference through the gears. With hindsight I should have had the hill hold and rear parking sensors, you live you learn! The question now is....remap?
