With the best will in the world fella, nobody can control these things - people lose jobs, move house etc, so sell their cars, sometimes unexpectedly and quickly. In an ideal world, we could control market demands, but in the used car game - hardly likely! You are right, these cars are undervalued, and the huge running costs do contribute to their pricing on the second hand market. You just have to accept this I'm afraid!

As PsYcHe says, something to do with the damp - maybe a bad connection. Please, please take care when messing with the ballasts; they can produce thousands of volts. You could lose a finger or worse! Disconnect the battery first. My first point of contact would be Ian at A8 parts, or a local autoelectrician if you don't feel confident.
