  1. Looking for opinions, facts, advice. Would you, have you, what, why? Finding little options available from my local tyre places, and to be honest I'm not completely sure I've decided yet whether I think its a good idea or not. Snow is only a problem for 2 or 3 weeks of the year - but sub zero temps go from End Sept to May with little respite so its more from that view I was considering it. Being located in Scotland, rain is also a constant companion and a couple of places have suggested that I will get better rain control from my current speed rating tyres than I would from winter tyres.
  2. So has anyone here actually had a claim processed - would be interesting to hear how that went? My warranty on the R32 is out at the end of August and I'm thinking seriously about it. Seems prices are not consistent? Wonder what is going on?
  3. I remember seeing this issue being raised in the past, regarding the red alarm light in the door staying on solid, even when the door is unlocked. I've done a search but can't find anything new, and wondering if anyone has figured out what the problem is yet? Car going in for some warranty work and no point mentioning the light to my VW garage without also mentioning the solution as they're not the best for ground-breaking problem solving - and chances are they would use a sharp screwdriver to remove things to investigate!
  4. Noticed my coolant is just on the minimum so needs a top up. Ignoring for the moment why its down on coolant after 8k - VW have told me that I need G12 and I can only get it from their garage - which is miles away. Does anyone here now if I can get it anywhere else, ie on the internet? Anybody know anything about this G12+ I've heard about?
  5. Yep, mine does it too, will probably bring it up next time car needs to go in for something. Hopefully by then somebody else's garage will have figured it out as my local VW garage is not too hot on "ground breaking" investigations
  6. Out of interest, for the others having the same issue, when was your car registered? Wondering whether they were all built around the same time. Mines an Aug 2006 MY07 model [/ QUOTE ] Mine was June 06 build
  7. Mine was in on Thursday for a whinning noise from the drivers side when you go uphill very slowly and turn right at the same time. Never noticed anything when applying brakes but will try this out. Anyway tech could find nothing and although I managed to reproduce the noise when we went out for a spin, he couldn't diagnose. Best he could offer was leave it until it gets worse. Be great to hear if anybody has had this noise and actually managed to get it correctly diagnosed / fixed?
  8. Loved the reg plate - unfortunatly can't post any of it without giving it all - but you know who you are
  9. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Sounds like the common fault with steering rack which affected A3,Golf,Touran,Octavia and others up to 2006 until they modified the racks. [/ QUOTE ] Mine's only 2 months old, with an enormous 650 miles on the clock. Have to say I'm tempted to live with it until something 'breaks' - keeps the dealers sticky mitts off it. [/ QUOTE ] Similar thoughts here. Done 2k miles (although only noticed the noise about 500 miles ago), but have put off getting it looked at as I'm concerned the dealer will damage my alloys. I thought of the steering rack problems that have been mentioned by others here but thought it had been dealt with by September when I got my car. Thinking back, my car was actually manufactured in June 06 - does anyone know if the steering rack issue was still around at this time?
  10. I love it! Similar thing happened to me recently - would still be laughing aboout it if I hadn't had to pay so much for their "expertise".....
  11. Not sure if i'll get in to trouble on the boards if I mention the actual name - but its an Aberdeen garage...
  12. My mark V needs to go into the servicing dept as I've got a "noise". Putting it off as I'm worried about my alloys. The last two times a car of mine has been in and has needed wheels removed, the alloys have come back marked. It drives me mad as I spend so much time and effort looking after them! Advise pls on what I should do this time before I let them near the new alloys.
  13. Anyone here gone back to a chamois after trying Megs Water Magnet cloth? Don't know if I've got a dud or what but I find it leaves smeares or doesn't dry well at all. Tried washing it as instructed - no softner, etc, but still useless. I'm going back to the chamois!
  14. Same for me, the Mark V is growing on me, but the Mark IV is still sadly missed. I has both the Mark IV and the Mark V for an overlapping week and I alternated which one I took each day. Yes, the Mark V only had 100 miles on it and the Mark IV had 27k, but the Mark IV just felt more special. Unfortunatly I wanted to get a new car so the Mark V arrived - and I don't regret it - just wish I could have got a new Mark IV!

[ QUOTE ] MK V R32 [/ QUOTE ] Did you try this? Hate the thought of roof bars but might be a necessary evil and so wondering how you got on? Removable, easy to use? Anyone out there tried the VW surf board roof bars?
