RNS-E Compatible MP3's......

I've noticed that certain MP3's will not play from the SD slots on my RNS-E unit & wondered if anyone else has had the same experience?

The names show up on the screen but it will skip the tracks to the next ones playable.

They're definitely not WMA's or any other format, so I was wondering what defines an MP3 file that the unit can play? confused.gif

If you have EU SW version 0550 or 0600 the "illegal" character restriction has been removed.

The other situation I've seen cause this problem is where the ID tag has a format that the RNS-E cannot read (it's not 100% compliant). This happened to me when I ripped the audio from a DVD. To solve it I opened the file with a tag editor, deeleted the old ID tag and created a new one.

i`ve had it before when the RNS-E will not play certain mp3`s , on the sd card, but when put into my pc card slot all ok, what i did was load the mp3 into cd to mp3 ripper program and redo the mp3 to the same bitrate, then save, reload to sd card and then in my case works in the RNS-E

That will have had two effects: 1) re-making the MP3 ID tag; and 2) possibly changing the codec used. I still reckon it's an ID tag problem.

i've had this a couple of times - on files that SHOULD play.

eg < 64 characters, all alpha-numeric etc. the name displays fine, but it just skips the song.

last song to do it was fergie big girls dont cry. havent worked out why yet.

bizarre! its 192kbps which should be fine.

its definitely not a tag problem!

Most likely a codec problem then.
