Cheap to run car to possibly replace A2?

The A2 is at the stage now where it needs quite a bit of attention so in a situation where it will probably be more sensible to part ex and replace it. Have been offered a very good deal on another slightly newer a2 with less miles, even after I decalred all the faults. I was wandering if there are any other alternatives people have experience of that would be as good and cheap to run? We have the 1.4 tdi which is 35 quid a year tax and does very good mpg. It just seems like financial common sence to invest a little more money to swap than the cost to repair all the issues on ours.

Thanks in advance for any pointers!

Hello

There is only one logical answer; the Honda Jazz!! I have had 3 and they are they just aobut to be replaced by an ALL NEW MODEL!! Your in luck!!

Out go the current DSI (twin spark plugs) incomes a 1.3 and a 1.5 VTEC 60+MPG 100PS and 120PS. Only a budget would keep you out of the 7 speed CVT. Build quality is probably the best in the game for the less then price cost of IS250. Good reputation, endlessly excellent customer service. My cars are all 17,000mi a year motors.

As far as value holds up, they are one of the best you can get. I know recently one or two newer models have sprung up but in that catorgory of car wont find better used values.

Keeping them serviced ISNT cheap, but then again you have an Audi!? If your think you will make the money back by buying a TD effort there is one in the works (1.3 IRRC) for the Honda Jazz. But you can bet that will be a £1000 more and with 60+ on the petrol models you gotta hope it will get 78-80 MPG to be worth it unless your racking up the miles.

What else can i say, um. There is the Note from Nissan, fair deal its a good car but residuals are crap.

Autoexpress have the lowdown on the "new jazz" but i warn you, its the Far East spec and in pink *CRINGE* so take that with a bit of salt.

HI Geoff,

Just had a look at whats available and they seem to be a good vaule second hand purchase. I would definitely be interested if they keep themselves as clean as yours!

Thanks very much for your input definitely something to compare the A2 against. Will have to see if I can get the better half in one!

Hi Paul,

Self washing isnt an option yet!! If your going used i would look out for spec above mine, SE-SPORT as it has leather + heated seats, digital climate control and bodykit with front fog lamps. It just looks nicer, personally new i dident need those extras for the £1000 extra but used its a nice deal. Auto folding mirrors i are standard on the 1.4's and all have the excellent folding seat options which make them so versatile.

My only nag is the steering is a little too light for some driving and i dont think its the easist car for looking out the back of until you get used to it. Most colour seem to be soft and based around light metalic so root around for the dark silver (pic 1) and the dark one in pic 3 as they look the best IMO.

Worth taking a look at the Fiat Panda...

Either the 1.2 petrol or the 1.3 diesel which gets 60-70MPG and is also £35/yr road tax.

Pretty well specced cars but with poor residuals (not helped by low starting price and discount sellers) but that just means you can get a nearly new model for peanuts.

Not quite audi build quality but really not what you might imagine if you've not been near a Fiat in years.....also theres not the audi price for the car or servicing. My wife drives a 4x4 Panda and from new it's had no problems at all in nearly 2 years and has and cost £130 for each annual service.

Take a look on www.fiatforum.com for more info ......

The New Polo BlueMotion.... better than the A2 when it comes to eco-wise.

Im having my test drive in 2 weeks!

Wooohoooo

55-88mpg with no road tax if you buy the base model.... if you opt for air-con model its £35 road tax!

I noticed this air-con thing. What happens if you get the base model, then retrofit the air-con? Will it still be tax free? confused.gif

VW do the two models... the official release date is the 5th of this month... they are apparently selling like mad... so my local dealer says I could expect a end of december delivery and no earlier.

The BlueMotion 1 has no Air-con, central locking and a few other features.. its has 99g O2 emission with a slightly better mpg compared to the BlueMotion 2 model.. with has 102g 02 emissions.

The BlueMotion 2 falls under the band B rating so thats £35pa.

It has Air-con, central locking, alarm, vanity lights, dipping mirror, auto home light, flip keys, spare space saver tyre etc.

All the info is on the VW site!!!!
