byron13
Ok I have just got back from a boys weekend away and my mate who also has an RS4 Saloon took his car as well. I noticed whilst we were there that his boot opens fully when he holds the boot button on his key and mine just pops the catch ??? On investigation the only difference is in the right hand side “arm” which holds the boot lid. It appears to have an extra spring and lever piece but all the rest is the same. Not sure why his has this and mine not as neither of remember seeing it as an option on the list ??? Does anyone know what if this is a viable retro fir and if they have seen it done ?? Any part numbers would be good?? Many thanks
techieboy
Was certainly an option on the vanilla A4 as I have it on mine. From memory it was called "auto boot lid opening", comes in handy sometimes. It was a cheap option, under £100 I think. Think there have been previous discussions and it was just the gas strut that was different.

wyliss
I have this option on my car, I am sure there are two closure springs on the inside of the boot lid which allows it to open fully automatically. Will check for you later if you like.......
maersk
Mine was fitted as an option on delivery - THE BEST £30 on any Audi options list!
byron13
Cheers folks - looks like a simple few bits - might just get local Audi to do it!!Seems to be an extra "strut" that goes with the extra spring which is body colour!! wyliss
Just had a quick look and there are two springs (encased in black plastic) attached to the inside of the boot lid which I assume push it up with the aid of the strut. Maybe possibly just a case of ordering the two encased springs.........
byron13
Cheers folks - I have the spring (s) on the left by the gas strut but the right side is diff and seems to have an extra spring on the mechanism. Looks like the rest is the same though. Will try to find my old copy of Ekta or whatever it was called.

putz
thanks mate, I would be most grateful, as you can imagine my local Audi dealer are as much use as a choocolate fireguard. This is one feature I should've spec'd when I bought the car, hopefully I can sort out the retro-fit though.
byron13
I will try to get a pic of my mates - trouble is we still need part numbers - looks simple emough to fit the bits (think it requires one bit to be painted IIRC)

byron13
Brill thanks Maersk - does the source show part numbers by any chance?
maersk
'Fraid not but it does show TWO hinges, Standard and Convenience. There is also the wiring to the boot release in the door - or is that standard?
byron13
Everything but the "extra" spring mech is there. The only thing I would say though folks is that closing the boot is a bit harder with this option, not a gentle swing to shut as I have now, need to give it more of a strong shove. maersk
Ok............ How did you do that?
maersk
Yep, to close I can 'swing' to the almost shut then push on the boot lid at the 'spoiler'. Still worth it though. The effect in Sainsbury's still turns heads...............
