Merlot
WOW. Great engine, great gearbox. Space Grey, all the usual Y plate BMW UK bits. Much cheaper than new (even after a big discount) as many people find out with lightly used 5 series. This one even had <1k miles on it.

Merlot
[ QUOTE ] I'm very happy with my 535d, the more I drive it the more it moves towards the top of "my fave owned cars" list. A DMS remap will inevitably be added at Christmas, but in standard form not many cars are quicker (everyday driving, not red line in every gear where the 996 was faster... JUST!) MERLOT... I think you will be very happy with a 535d... I'm sure you'll have just a good an ownership experience as the M3 and 550 [/ QUOTE ] Going well so far. Its just a great feel good car. Fast, easy gearbox, right image, not too flash and much better traction than I expected - must be the 19" SC2s. And I bet a lot to easy to sell when the time comes than either the M3 or the 550i. Regarding DMS, I was a bit disappointed in that the remap is the same for 07MY cars despite their higher PS/Nm starting figures. I would have expected a bit more. Irnbrukid
Does it have SAT, and whats it like.
Merlot
Sat Nav? Yes it does but any big engined five would be unsaleable without it. Its like all OEM units, far inferior to plug in jobbies but the market requires it. FWIW it can only get you within four miles of my house as I have no street name and it won't take postcodes. Merlot
No, just the regular so no paddles. Apparently the standard auto is much improved and the new star wars gear stick is easy to use for manual shifts - very short throw. Mind you, the auto box is so good that manual shifts seem a waste of time. I would have preferred paddles but I rarely used them on my A8 and the Y07 plate ex BMW cars rarely seem to have them. I'm happy the car is the right the choice which for me is quite rare! Its a solid all round product.
Biscuits
Glad your getting on with the car Merlot. Looks like the remap will be happening shortly, not DMS, but another "recommended" remap supplier. Will let you know how I get on. RE the Conti SC2's.... I'm ditching them as soon as possible for Mich PS2's or GSD3's... but it's probably personal preference.
Merlot
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Vis - yes plus a few other things. [/ QUOTE ] and the 550? [/ QUOTE ] Teletubby bye bye. Gareth
[ QUOTE ] What do you mean? Why did I not like them or how much did I lose? [/ QUOTE ] No, neither. I was interested to hear if after all the time waiting for the E92 M3 you actually bought it/owned it or just dumped it before you did that. Also you mentioned that you "bought" a 550 and again was just curious if that meant you agreed to buy it and then changed your mind. I'll bog off if you want me to though... Merlot
No, don't mind being asked. I bought both, took delivery and did about 500 miles in each before I realised that neither were right for me. Learnt a few lessons, mainly that the new M3 is available everywhere and for any big engined car with a manual gear box then the price guides are best thrown out of the window. Still I suprised myself at how little I lost (had to make a lot of phone calls though) and now I've got what I want - that diesel engine is amazing. Now just need to decide whether to replace the B6 S4 Avant with a B8 one....probably best wait for a test drive.

Simonl
[ QUOTE ] - that diesel engine is amazing. patently
My comment was only half in jest - the car came with Goodyear Eagles that I think aren't up to the job. I'm waiting for them to wear out so that I can replace them with Michelin PS2s, which have been great on the 330Ci I had before the 5 and on the 911. gizze
Or get the new Goodyear Asymmetricals, these have an exact copy tread wise of the PS2 but with a slightly softer compound and meant to be very good.
