junglie69
Hi in my quest for better lighting and having tried many different bulbs I have determined that the main beam cannot be further improved. I find it does not focus far enough on the road ahead the amount of light output isn't an issue. After little bit of research a guy on audizine appears to have completed the retrofit with very little trouble. I checked on Elsawin, and the parts needed seem straightforward, a Bi-Xenon housing complete with control motor for both sides. All other parts can be transferred over and a realignment carried out at the end. I'm not sure whether additional VAGCOM input would be required. Has anyone done this retrofit, is it worth it. Perhaps if you drive a B6 with Bi-Xenon can you tell me how good is your main beam, thanks.
PetrolDave
I know the B7 can have bi-Xenons but was the B6 ever made with bi-Xenons? My previous B6 S4 (late 2004) had Xenons.
shark_90
I thought that too. I didn't think there was a Bi-Xenon for the B6.
Mook
No bi-xenons for the B6 S4 - Xenon dipped and totally shite main beam bulbs

junglie69
Hi guys thanks for the input, having searched my collection of audi magazines and catalogs you would seem to be correct there is no mention of Bi-Xenon. Another look at Elsawin definitely shows them though, so I made a call to VAGparts and they do list them for the B6 and they are available, they come with motor and shutter fitted, the ballast and bulbs swap over. The price £275, so not cheap. I will try to post the link for the guy from the Audizine site who successfully retrofitted them. I have VAGCOM and I guess I would need to recode to stop the bulb check every time I fired the main beams. I need to do a bit more research, again if anyone has experience of the Bi-Xenons - are they that much better - it would be much appreciated, thanks. paulrstaylor
About two years ago vagparts used to list them on their site. Will be interested to see how you go on, I could do with a set on mine too!
PetrolDave
ETKA only lists Bi-Xenon headlights for 8ED and 8EC cars - which is the B7.

spikeyboy
Can you clarify the difference between xenon and bi-xenon. Is bi-xenon just a main xenon beam as well as the halogen beam still ?

[/ QUOTE ] Guess its wrong then?? have a look at this...... no part numbers tho [/ QUOTE ] Seeing as ETKA is Audi's own part number system that would be unusual... We need part numbers for the lamps used in the Audizine article. BTW I note that's in the USA, perhaps B6 Bi-Xenons were only produced for the US market? PetrolDave
At least on the B7 Bi-Xenon is a single Xenon bulb with a shutter that changes the beam shape when main beam is requested, and the pictures in the link above only show 1 Xenon bulb too. PetrolDave
As I thought - telling ETKA to list parts for US models shows Bi-Xenon headlamps for the B6. The part numbers are 8E0 941 029 AB and 8E0 941 030 AB. So B6 Bi-Xenon headlamps are only available for US models. What's the difference between a US headlamp and a LHD European headlamp? Beam pattern - US headlamps are designed to have a completely different beam pattern to EU headlamps, and their use in the EU is illegal. There's a detailed post on AudiWorld about the differences. paulrstaylor
I don't have access to ETKA at the moment having just moved house so feel kind of blind! Would be shocked if they were only made available in the states and not in europe, at least in germany!? Any idea's what p/n 8E0 941 004 P and 8E0 941 003 P Would be useful if the original poster could supply the part numbers he has?

paulrstaylor
Strange, my germans not too good but that looks like the part number on these. Will be LHD again i'm sure, maybe the partnumber was wrong on the auction, going to re-install elsawin and ETKA later and have a look

I can't access ETKA now until next year (it won't run on Vista, so I have to run it on my work PC which uses XP).

paulrstaylor
Dave, Have done soem more digging and would value your opinion! In ETKA model A4, year 03, Illustration 941-24 I see in the remarks column "Bi-XENON" with part numbers as follows: 8E0 941 029 T (Right hand traffic, left unit) 8E0 941 029 AA (left hand traffic, left unit) 8E0 941 029 T (Right hand traffic, right unit) 8E0 941 029 T (left hand traffic, right unit) Any idea on how I work out if they are the correct beam pattern or what market they are destined for??
