eolair
[ QUOTE ] ... works out about 1p for every litre of diesel. ... about £6 for 500ml and you add 10ml to every litre. [/ QUOTE ] Not doubting the effect of the stuff, but the sums are a bit off. £6 = 500ml stuff 10ml stuff per litre = £6 for 50 litres = 600/50 p litre =12p litre Probably on a par cost difference between the cheapest supermarket diesel with money off voucher and the Optimax/Ultimate stuff. Now if you could get it wholesale e.g. £3 bottle, then we're in business.
gizze
Sorry my mistake, it is 10ml per 10 litres not per litre And it is way better than ultimate.

gizze
I keep meaning to ask you Fatcat, what is with the name?? See your in Norfolk anything to do with the Fatcat Pub ??
fatcat
Always been known as fatcat, I grew up on a Slough council estate and my parents won the pools, nothing life changing but enough for my dad to buy a new car and give us a holiday, since then our family were known as 'fatcats' and me being the youngest I had the nickname. 'Fat' today may be somewhat relevant !!!! The sig is nothing to do with my location but more to do with the Essex meet TSN quiz team...... I think there is a fatcat pub in Ipswich though........ The press keep making remarks about fatcat payouts - this has bugger all to do with me
gizze
Ahh I see. Your name aslways reminds me of a rather good pub in Norwich and just saw your location as Norfolk and chance...

eloco
Hello there. I'm new in this fórum, come from Portugal, and i hope to learn a lot and also help in what i can. After this briefe introduction i whant to know how many fillups of BP ultimate diesel do you do to start to see some improvments, like the engine noise? I'm starting the second one after a lot of miles
Satch
I run two diesel cars and both run better on Ultimate even at tickover. As has been noted, if you switch back to normal diesel after a couple of tankfuls you will soon notice the difference. But I also use Millers Diesel Power Plus with the Ultimate! Net result is that you get much, much better drive. The proof is that even my wife , unprompted, noticed the difference and now trys to fill up with Ultimate and stick the Millers in. Normally the wheels have to drop off before she cares about car things.

wuzabeeb
I've had various good and bad experiences with Ultimate Diesel. My first experience was in my wife's Seat Leon Tdi .. boosted to 150 bhp with an add-on module that just controls fuel delivery from the pump ... after the second tankful .. she was overtaking under hard acceleration, and suddenly lost power. The car went into the Audi/VW tdi 'limp home' mode ... indicative of an over-boost. The Seat dealer found no fault, but thought maybe an intermittent volume sensor on the turbo .. replaced it .. then it happened again two weeks later ... no power under acceleration. We talked to a specialist who asked the obvious .. what have you done different recently? I told him we'd started using Ultimate diesel ... try a 'normal' diesel for a while he said .. sure enough .. it's never happened again. Mind you, the car did go like the proverbial bat out of hell with the stuff in it .. but if you've got an engine boost kit fitted.. it may cause you to suffer the same. My Audi Quattro 2.5 Tdi DOES have a boost kit .. and copes with Ultimate Diesel .. BUT .. now the cold weather has arrived, it is actually FAR noisier at cold start than it was with ordinairy diesel. When it's warm .. it's actually quieter than ordinary diesel .. anybody else had the same? The Audi A3 2.0Tdi sport we have is more 'rattly' at cold start on Ultimate too. BTW .. how stoopid of BP to make the pump signs the SAME for Ultimate Petrol and Diesel. My commiserations to those poor unfortunates who have inadvertently pumped 'ultimate petrol' into their diesel cars .. BP should be sued.

My commiserations to those poor unfortunates who have inadvertently pumped 'ultimate petrol' into their diesel cars .. BP should be sued. [/ QUOTE ] Funny you say that!!! Back in May I noticed that our local filling station had big Ultimate banners flapping around outside, it was a Sunday lunchtime and I had half a tank already in the car, but as they now had ultimate I thought oh well may as well fill up and get some newspapers. Saw all the green pumps as I drove in, and then noticed a pump again with an Ultimate banner on it and a blue handle, so I pulled up got out the car and while my wife asked what papers I wanted I undid the filler cap and start to put the ultimate into the car, as soon as she walked away I looked down and saw on a tiny sticker say "Ultimate Unleaded". Bollox!!!! I had put 13 litres in, mind you this was our ML270cdi which has an 83 litre tank. I went in to tell the guy what had happened and to let him know why the car would be staying there for a bit, and his reply was "No problem mate, people have been doing that all week" Mercedes wanted just over £3k to sort it out, as it was under warranty they would have to replace the fuel tank, fuel lines, fuel pump and cats, just to make sure there was nothing in there, however the very helpful technician said with a wink that some people may just drain the tank and fill it up with more diesel if they didn't want to do it by the book. After asking BP why they had used a blue handle for the Unleaded pump, when blue had been reserved for Diesel across europe? they replied that it is only a recommendation not a rule and most companies use a black handle for diesel. Very fecking helpful, thank you!!! So that is why you use another slightly different shade of blue for your Ultimate diesel is it??!! Anyway the upshot of this is that BP will now pay out any costs incurred by putting Ultimate unleaded into their car at any pump using a blue handle. I have just sent them a bill for £320.
