MERV
Hi all Have a gt tdi golf 115hp with a 130hp head on it and it seems to have a lack of power after 2500rpm does anybody have any ideas as to what would be wrong thanks merv
Mook
It's more than likely to be the MAF sensor (a.k.a. Mass Air Flow Meter). This measures the volume of air being drawn in and adjusts the fuelling accordingly. They're a really common problem on most every VW. They cost about £80 to replace and this is a 5 minute job (although you'll doubtless be charged an hour by your VW garage or specialist). One other, less likely cause is one of the air pipes springing a leak. Happened on Mrs Mook's GT TDI. HTH

Mook
No. It's been a problem ever since VW introduced the 1.8T and the 1.9TDI way back in the late 90s.
MERV
Thanks for that but I changed the air mass metre a fortnight ago and it made no difference. What air pipes do you think would be leaking or would it maybe be a vacumn pipe??????? Thanks Merv
MERV
Yes I haven't got the car that long because when I got her I had to replace the head so I don't know what is wrong but it is doing my head in Thanks Merv
MERV
Yes this problem is just a recent one because when I got the car I had to change the head on the car.
Mook
Any one of the pipes in between the air intake and the manifold - if there's any leak at all, the pressurised air will be leaking out and your turbo will be wasting its breath. MERV
Thanks for that I will maybe give it a try later.Would that leave her hard to start from cold as well.??
Mook
No, because you don't need the turbo spooled up to start the car. Do you have problems starting from cold?
