Looking for a facelift model at the moment and and a bit confused/overwhelmed by the number of options etc. available - makes it very tricky to compare.

From what I have read satnav is a must for resale as is auto which is fine.

Glass' advises cars without 'comms pack' (is this another name for satnav?) are worth £2.5k less and premium pack (what is this ?) adds £1k.

Any other extras that are considered 'essential' + anything to look out for ?

Hi,

I was looking at these last month and actually have decided that i would rather a newer 3 series touring. I was looking at the Le Mans Special Edition 3.0d. There seems to be plenty about for the right money at the moment and good deals to be done. As long as it is registered pre march 06 you won't get hit with the band g tax. Every dealer i spoke to agreed that without comms back they were worth 2k less and it would be difficult to move in the future.

When i was looking it became very apparent that you really do need to have a good look at the bodywork as these a big motors and suffer with dings and scraps. Also anything above 25k miles, look over the interior to see how well the previous owner/s has looked after it as i always find bmws interiors when not looked after can look tired very quickly.

Thanks

Matt

Thanks for the responses. Since I posted I came across this on an x5 forum which I very helpful - X5 buyers guide.

I also looked at a couple the weekend anticipating a good selection given the recent model change and upcoming new reg. Local BMW dealer had 2 in stock - one with no satnav. Visited another dealer (BMW specialist) and their cars were rough - straight from company owners via auction I suspect and complete with dents, scratches, kerbed alloys and marked/broken trim shocked.gif.

I also had a look at Parkers website which provides options list for each model. I copied the 3.0d list into Excel and couldn't believe it took up nearly 300 lines confused.gif.

As much as I like the exterior I couldn't believe how dated the interiors are compared with my recently departed A4. Agree with the comment re: wearing of the interiors as well. BMW seem to use a type of leather that sags/stretches really quickly - look at the drivers seat in any car with more than a handful of miles.

Is an X5 really better than (say) a 535d estate (or similar) ?

In some ways, yes. In other ways, no. Depends what you're after.

Also, how the f*ck can they call something with 4wd and a diesel engine 'sport' ?

Try one long term. It can hustle! But I think the "sport" title is by way of comparison with the SE model... grin.gif
