i got home from me hols yesterday, then last night i decided to see how many emails i had, i got 1 from ebay telling me my account had ben suspended, i contacted ebay today, and what someone has done is somehow got into my ebay account changed the email address, password and delivery address, then they bought a £230 phone with my ID, and they also tried to pay for it through paypal as they had my payapl id and password. I`ve now managed to get the addresss they changed it to, and its only 20 miles from me.

I`ve contacted paypal and informed them of the issue.

Now my question is how the hell did these people get my password from my ebay and paypal account? and what is the best internet security software?

Please people check your ebay accounts every now and then to make sure the emsil address and delivery address has not been changed..

when i told ebay i have the address they have changed it too, all they said was "it will be forwarded to the relevant department", and yes the same for paypal, when they realised my paypal account had been hacked after i explained to them what had happened, i asked that the last transaction which was to withdraw £230 from my bank to pay for a item was not done by me and please make sure this does not go through, all they said to me was "please contact your bank".

Did you fill in any 'requests' for information from an eBay or Paypal email (with link)?

These are the usual ways these bods gather information.

Also, it might be prudent to run Spyware software. Funny how they knew you would be away..........

I had one and I put in some 'nice' details about my name, address, bank details etc etc. all the words I put in were to do the the word 'cnut'.

No, I mean from the email reply they get from your email address rather than what you added in the link. When you click the link they know which email it was that got you there and the IP address of the machine visiting the site.

That's OK, it was a works machine which picks up a new IP each week. The new SPAM filter they have at work, works a treat too wink.gif
