johnny11
i got home from me hols yesterday, then last night i decided to see how many emails i had, i got 1 from ebay telling me my account had ben suspended, i contacted ebay today, and what someone has done is somehow got into my ebay account changed the email address, password and delivery address, then they bought a £230 phone with my ID, and they also tried to pay for it through paypal as they had my payapl id and password. I`ve now managed to get the addresss they changed it to, and its only 20 miles from me. I`ve contacted paypal and informed them of the issue. Now my question is how the hell did these people get my password from my ebay and paypal account? and what is the best internet security software? Please people check your ebay accounts every now and then to make sure the emsil address and delivery address has not been changed..
Thorburn
A lot of the time it's down to social engineering, ringing up tech support and getting the details off them using a few bits of information about you they've found.
Mo-S3
Rest assured that ebay and paypal will do sweet FA
johnny11
when i told ebay i have the address they have changed it too, all they said was "it will be forwarded to the relevant department", and yes the same for paypal, when they realised my paypal account had been hacked after i explained to them what had happened, i asked that the last transaction which was to withdraw £230 from my bank to pay for a item was not done by me and please make sure this does not go through, all they said to me was "please contact your bank". bpsmith
Put a dispute in via PayPal as you have not received the goods? They normally just refund the money on most ocassions, although yours is a little trickier as the seller technically did what was asked?
cruiser647
Did you fill in any 'requests' for information from an eBay or Paypal email (with link)? These are the usual ways these bods gather information. Also, it might be prudent to run Spyware software. Funny how they knew you would be away.......... I had one and I put in some 'nice' details about my name, address, bank details etc etc. all the words I put in were to do the the word 'cnut'. bpsmith
No, I mean from the email reply they get from your email address rather than what you added in the link. When you click the link they know which email it was that got you there and the IP address of the machine visiting the site.

Tonsko
Good luck with that. Can I recommend this piece of software for the future? http://keepass.info/ Enables you to give all your online accounts seriously hard password to crack, and you only have to remember one! Just make that one at least 30 characters, and you're pretty safe.
