mikerd4 Posted February 27, 2008 Report Share Posted February 27, 2008 On all my previous cars Ive changed my oil every 6 months or 5000 miles regardless of service intervals etc I plan to so this on the S4 even though its on long life service intervals. Ive done some research and Opie oils recommend Castrol Edge. Its a 5W - 30 but others say 5w -40 is better. There is a 1 litre bottle of SLX II in the boot from the last service but as far as I am aware this is no longer available and is superseeded by edge? Also can anyone tell me how much oil I need (I think about 6 litres)? and how easy is it to change the gearbox oil? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Mook Posted February 27, 2008 Report Share Posted February 27, 2008 The 5W 30 is what you need - I just bought 12 litres from Opie and mine also gets done every 5K miles. Edge is what you get from non dealers - SLX III is what you get from Audi dealers - same stuff, just check the rating and that the spec is on the bottle Gearbox oil is a pain in the arse, only because of the fill plug - you need to be a contortionist.
