thanks for the input. interesting it may not be a huge step up from the s3.

I beg to differ, even a "breathed on" S3 will make around 250, 260bhp max. The M3 has a genuine 343 bhp and weighs around the same. That's nearly 100 bhp more!

I went from a modded S3 to an M3 to a CSL and the difference is noticeable whatever others say on here.

Even with 80BHP difference, what's the on paper difference? Probably less than 1/2 sec to 60, likely the S3 with more torque can hold on through the gears. No-one is saying their's no difference, just not a big difference.

My M5 had over 100BHP more power than my RS4, but on paper the 0-60 is exactly the same.

I never said you did Wop, but pictures speak a thousand words, as do your tales.

All I can do Paul my friend is give a personal opinion on the cars I have experience with. I can state what I like and what I dont. If you dont understand, or disagree that’s your predicament. I simply dont like the idea of the Quattro whores putting of peeps who may have actually liked a proper drivers car - before reading one of your threads. Like me you have quite a strong opinion!

The pics are in my sig, not my thread. I enjoyed myself, even if you think its juvenile.

& it's a proper drivers car why?? because you think it is or because your driving experiences are a tad limited/blinkered & therefore like you say it's all purely you opinion, as my observations & comments are mine. You prefer your CSL to your previous R32 & i can understand why. I prefer my RS4 to my previous E60 M5 & RS6, but is it a better car? no not really, just more capable of doing the things i want & need it to do.

Most modern cars are very good at the jobs they're designed for & markets they're aimed at, but that does not really make any car better than any other, just different.

I'm not favoured of any marque, but i know what i find fun & that's were we differ. You like ponsing around with your cars back end hanging out & i like to stay out of hedges. Neither of us is right or wrong, just different.

As said before, the driving style you display in your sig is best left to organised drifting events, as if i encountered such activity on a track day i was attending, the least of your worries would be getting evicted from the track. It's not big & it's not clever, no matter how much fun you think it is. I've seen many folk get hurled off an event for ponsing around.

Please DON'T state that any car is more of a drivers can than another car when you nor me for that matter are qualified to state that. Opinion yes, fact no.

Sorry O/P for going way off topic.

I love the way you asume you know me? You actually know very little, but I dont want to burst yor bubble, your obviously enjoying this! Ignorance is bliss right?? grin.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

Where have i said i know you or assume/pretend to know you?? I have read some of your posts all over the forum & i hear what other people have said about you, why do i need to know you??

I've no bubble for anyone to burst, i'm not ignorant (far from it) & i'm hardly having fun, i'm just trying to straighten out a few mis-guided comments. Opinions are entitled to but quoting what's better & what's not & what's a drivers car & what's not is pure shite & they are the only points i've made.

You have a fantastic car, you're passionate about it (so you should be) & you've made some fine modificatiosn to it, however that does not mean it or you are all that & your tone often exudes that impression, that's all i'm saying.

What floats your boat may not float other peoples, that doesn't always make it/you wrong, just different & as i've said before, we'd live in a poo world if we were all the same.

whoah... thanks for the replies guys.

I found out all the hifi info i wanted from the mtorque forum in the end.

seem to have opened a can of worms here though.

yes the remapped s3 is a great car and i love it.. but i do see the m3 as a good step forwards for me (no point going backwards).

In an ideal world i would get the S5 but its too new and i cant afford it. So the M3 should fill the gap while i wait for the S5 price to drop.

Plus i have always wanted an e46.. even if its no quicker from a to b than my S3.. it will be a different driving experience and will be nice to be back in a 6cyl car.

agree with the last post, but ive never said anything that wasnt true to my experiences. I have had good fun with all the cars mentioned. As said before I dont want people to get scared of either the M3 or CSL for silly reasons. All I can say is my piece and rather informed piece it is too. A good spa is always fun after a hair on fire day - but I dont think many people on this forum want to hear it. Try PGT for race banter! 169144-ok.gif

it is, but 0-60 is a feeble judge with performance cars of today. at speeds after that im sure te m5 would pull away like a train? Paul???

[/ QUOTE ]

Totally agree with that. On paper both cars have the same 0-60/62 time, but i know of M5's that have hit 60 on datalogs closer to 4 secs & B7 RS4's that have been in the very low 4's so not alot in it given the extra 100BHP. Also their best 1/4 mile times are very close.

Where the M5 has the advantage at higher speeds is the gearing, as with 7 gears, i could hit over 180MPH before selecting top gear, but in the RS4 i'd be well into the top gear at those speeds.

This was tested at VMAX where i can run the RS4 at a genuine 172MPH over the 1.6 mile runway, yet managed 182MPH from the M5. Up to 100MPH their is nothing really in it.

The best judge of a cars performance in my mind is ones personal experiences. I know i'm faster point to point in the RS4 than i was in the M5 as i found the car naturally lighter & tighter & more eager to change direction quickly given it's a group smaller than a 5 Series. Also the Quattro offers up that extra level of security & allows in certain situations higher speeds & more power to be delivered out of a corner in less than perfect conditions.

All horses for courses as at these levels all the cars have their traits & advantages. I went out in a Lexus IS-F a couple of weeks ago & that car was very composed with excellent handlong & braking.

Is it possible, perhaps, to keep the RS4 vs M3 vs everything else bullsh1t in another thread and answer Nathan's original question of E46 Hifi options? This constant bickering is fecking boring!

[/ QUOTE ]

Has that not been done?. Options & advice given to the O/P.

I think you'll find this is playful banter & it did actually spill over from it's more appropriate home. Never mind, no harm done smlove2.gif
