Nelson_R32 Posted April 1, 2008 Report Share Posted April 1, 2008 It's not an 'issue' at all. Brake discs are made of low quality steel therefore they rust. Because of the hub design on the A3/Golf/TT and the wheels on them getting larger and larger the brake discs tend to be much more in view. So, the choices are hammerite or forcing Audi to buy higher quality steel brake discs which will hurt your wallet Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

maersk Posted April 2, 2008 Report Share Posted April 2, 2008 Modular, grey cast iron. The best qualities of it (for brakes)exhibit the ability for you to watch it rust!!! No, not overnight but see the rust form in minutes. This oxidation layer acts as a barrier to further corrosion, which is why manhole covers do not rust away.
