Ok when I was 17 I fitted a stereo in my Escort. Worked fine. Last year I fitted an iPod connector in our mini. Works fine as well 169144-ok.gif

I am considering fitting a single DIN unit into my golf to replace the RCD 500 that I have. I have looked at various sites and some mention a VW/Seat wiring adaptor which is a simple plug and play option to connect a new stereo to the wiring loom of the car. Is it really that easy? It does mention no ignition or illumination feeds in the main loom that will need hard wiring if required. Eh???? confused.gif

So what I want to do is fit an Alpine unit, with bluetooth into my golf. I have the RCD500 upgrade if that will make any difference??? What do I need to buy and am I likely to fook the car doing so? Oh and also I want the steering wheel controls to work with the new headunit too!!

You help is much appreciated beerchug.gifbeerchug.gif

Most VAG factory fitted radios receive many signals like ignition, illumination, etc over the CAN bus.

If your aftermarket radio doesn't have a CAN bus then you'll either have to add wires to get the signals (if they exist!) or use a box that decodes the messages off the CAN bus and generates the signals needed.

I am sure Alpine do a Canbus adapter as do Blaupunkt as I considered buying one when I installed my Satnav (VW MFD is non can but my MkIV Golf was) but was about 120 so I picked up the speed, ignition & illumination elsewhere.
