Hi,

I had my 2001 passat re-mapped last week and a dump valve fitted. It had been running perfect till tonight, i went to pull away from the tamar bridge toll booth, it lost power, started to missfire and then the yellow engine light started to flash. I nursed it home and after checking oil and water, both of which are spot on i noticed the cat was glowing. It still missfires but the light goes of on start up am too scared to drive it incase i do something to bad to the engine.

I have read on this forum about coil packs going down and split vacumn hoses but im wondering if i have cooked the lambda sensor?? is this possible.

Any info is appreciated!

Am in the plymouth area but begrudge going to main stealer to get hte car looked at, have heard of volks city does anybody know if they are any good?

cheers

chris

If it's misfiring the unburnt fuel could be getting to the cat and burning in the cat, which will make a real mess of it. I wouldn't drive it, because you could damage the cat (or kill it completely) and probably cause other damage. Could be something as simple as a coil pack. About £35 each if I remember rightly. Good luck!

Hi,

got he car sorted today, drove it quarter mile from my house and phoned the RAC for road side assistance! it turned out that my number 3 coil pack had died. Luckily Mr RAC had a coil pack in his van, fitted it in a matter of seconds and we were off again! I was well chuffed so went for a ride around looked down at my speedo and noticed the yellow engine light was on, GUTTED!!!! The car still drove fine, pulls like a train etc but this light was on, i phoned around a few garages and got someone to look at it for £23.50 and turn the light off. This worked for about 30 mins n now the light is on again....any solutions??

hi,

had another coil pack go, again mr rac changed it for me to get me on my way. went to a vw specialist in plymouth called alan davies, very good. he turned the light off for £20+vat and suggested i had 4 new coil packs, gen vw of course, £118 later, a quick fit and the light turned off...... all is well.

so if anyone gets a coil pack go down, change the lot can save u alot of money! my 2001 1.8t had done 89k and i have read and been told by a mate in a garage that this is about the most u can get out of a set.

cheers to all who gave me info.
