Macbook- Help

Hi guys i just got my macbook replaced within its frst 28 days due to a couple of faults and PC world was more then happy to swap it.

So Im on my second day with this new one and atm im sat in an odd position and the macbook is on a 45 degree slope and there is a whining/grinding noise coming from the top leftish area below the keyboard. So i level out and at some random angles its still making this noise. The only thing i cant think it sounds like is a quiet version of a dentists drill.

Should i be worried, are there any mac experts about?? (perhaps mac)

i thought that.

Just trying to convince myself its running itself in but i think it may be going back to pc world

just changed rooms and whilst doing so closed it and it quietened down (im running world of warcraft so its breathing very loudly) and after opening it and before the fans going into warcraft mode its not doing it no matter what angle i put it at :S how very odd

Another update

Its back but it appears to be something to do with the fans

as when i leave warcraft and it doesnt need as much cooling the fans slowdown and the noise goes away. Just to add to annoyance the green light next to the isight is on, which is odd as there is nothing running that requires it

[ QUOTE ]

When the fans in my MacBook are going (which they only seem to do when it's booted into Vista) they are incredibly loud, much much louder than my Dell D820 at full blast.

its not that, im ok with the fans going louder when its under heavy use but its this grinding noise that comes with it

Might be a loose component or a heat issue. It definitely should NOT make a grinding noise. Take it back.

BTW - The older MacBooks (2.0GHz chips) had an issue with heat where the heat sink on the CPU would expand and make contact with something that basically shorted and caused the machine to instantly shut down.

It was fixed by Apple with a software/firmware update that changed the fan behaviour to keep the beast cool. smile.gif

PC world what a complete and utter joke :ffs:

I took this macbook in with the problem and he couldnt get it to occur which i explained was because it was not running hot so he thought playing music would make it work hard enough... err no i dont think so

So i spend an hour standing in a shop waiting for him to tell me theres nothing wrong with it well im sorry but this is the loudest laptop ive ever used and its meant to be silent. He thought hed tell me to come back tomorrow which i complied with knowing that the useful staff that helped with the previous macbook would be in.

Grrr rrant over
